So, we went to Meowfest on Saturday because Merle is a HUGE cat fan. There were some Instagram famous cats that she loves that were attending, so we though….why not? It was so bloody hot. They really should have planned for the weather and chose a better venue, because the one that it was at was an old brick making factory that consists of several heritage buildings. These buildings are open warehouses, that have absolutely no air conditioning.
I love the idea behind the buildings, and it’s history (which you can read here, and is very interesting) but Saturday was the hottest day of the summer so far. It had a humidex of over 40°C and it was very, very uncomfortable walking through there, even with the massive industrial fans that people were hovering around.
We pretty much only stuck around for an hour and couldn’t tolerate the heat anymore, so we went to the big outlet mall. Tom was in search of shorts for work and that seemed like a good choice. Which in hindsight it probably wasn’t because of the amount of money we spent :/
The maintenance people are coming tomorrow between 9 and 5 to replace the central air filters. This means that no furniture or anything that may hinder access can be within 4 ft of the unit. Because our condo is so small the result is that my living room is currently all pulled out to the center of the room, so that the area around the unit is clear for them. It was a good excuse to do some deep cleaning though, and I managed to fill two large bags with donation crap…..but don’t tell Merle because I may have snuck some things in there that she truly won’t miss, but will make a huge deal of if she notices.
Just for once it would be nice to not live with three packrats. I think a top to bottom purge is something that we could all really benefit from.
Do you remember that show on TLC that would help people do this? Not Hoarders 😉 although it sometimes feels like that here. It was the show where the people would go in and make them separate things into 3 piles of keep, sell, and trash/donate in order to help them get their house in order. I need them to come to my place.
Once upon a time we lived in a building that allowed us to drag down all the old furniture, and crap that we didn’t want and leave it in the little area behind the building. Someone would come once a week with a truck to collect all of the old furniture and donate it, but a lot of the time other tenants would take the items you left because obviously another person’s trash is another person’s treasure. It was such an easy way to get rid of things that you didn’t want and I wish I had access to that again.
*I’ve have been waiting for this blouse to come back in stock for a year and a half. I kept missing it every time it did, but finally managed to get it this time around. I love the nude women on it, it reminds me of artists sketches.
