I got a last-minute plea for assistance in some ideas for what to pack for New York City in November. They are only spending 4 days in New York so this capsule wardrobe is a little more compact than usual.

I am really busy this week so this smaller list is the perfect one to squeeze in.

The thing about November is that it will either be decent fall temperatures or really cold. This list is focusing more on the basic fall temperatures.

Another good thing about November is that even if it is cold and snows chances are that it will not stick so there won’t be a need for winter boots within your travel capsule.

I included a pair of waterproof booties that will keep your feet dry, warm (enough), and are comfortable (based on many reviews).

Since this is only a 4 day vacation packing list I did not want to include 3 pairs of shoes, BUT if you think you need some other fall footwear then you can’t go wrong with any of the shorter styles of Sorels. They’ll do the job.

Now on to the jackets selections.

I chose a long faux fur, belted style because it is both chic, warm, and makes a statement. Now for another BUT, if the weather is predicted to be below seasonal temperatures than you will want to go with something more winter parka style.

That’s what makes it hard for this time of year.

You will be tweaking your packing choices until the very last-minute based on weather predictions.

Since this is New York the chances are you will have at least one occasion for dressing up which is where the slip dress comes in.

It is very, very versatile, and both easy to wear and to pack. This might also be where you would want to include a 3rd pair of shoes like heels if you feel the situation requires it.

A slip dress under a blazer, with heels, and light jewellery is a really simple yet chic look. The one is the packing list is on the pricey end, but this one is a cheaper alternative.

I have it in black and love it.

Don’t forget to include winter pieces like a hat, gloves, and scarves because the wind chill can go right through you.
