If you have been here a while then you know that I really don’t like the summer. It makes me irritable and uncomfortable, so laying on a beach is no my idea of an ideal vacation. For my husband on the other hand, it is.

He would back his bags and move to an island south of the equator in a heartbeat and happily spend the rest of his days being a beach bunny. Needless to say our first trip together was to Barbados and it just so happens to have been 10 years ago this month.

To say that I have learned things along the way is an understatement. I have not only honed my personal style and narrowed down my closet to 1/3 of what it once was, I have also honed my packing skills.

Ten years ago I packed a huge suitcase. In my mind, the more was the better because I wanted to make sure I had stuff to wear.

For 14 days I packed 8 shirts, 4 shorts, 2 pants, 3 skirts, 4 dresses, and 5 pairs of shoes. Yikes. I still remember pretty much every piece.

The funny thing was, I only ended up wearing 3 shirts, 1 pair of shorts, one skirt, two sweaters, one dress, and 3 pairs of shoes. The jeans, and one of the three pair of shoes I wore only for travel because it was cold back here.

I could have easily packed light if it was something that I had known about back then. It wasn’t until 4 years later that I realized that travel capsules were a thing.

So I started practising that “thing” over the years and reached a point where I was comfortable enough with my wardrobe that I could figure out how best to combine things for most options. I took that, applied it here, and you get to see the product of those years.

So for this week, I pulled a request to a warm weather destination so that you could see what I should have packed for that first-time vacation 10 years ago. This week it is a 10 days in Greece vacation for a family of 4.

I included jeans in this list strictly for travel purposes but they may come in useful if the weather turns cooler. Outfit Options are in the What to Wear in Greece post.

I hope that this gave you some ideas on how to hone your own packing list.
