Right about now you are being bombarded by gift guides left, right, and centre so I am going to add to it 😉 Today I have the For Him gift guide. The man in your life that is an entertainer, a gamer, a traveller, or the one that just needs some new pajamas and slippers.

I tried to include something for everyone like the gamer, but also the nostalgic gamer who loved his Atari when he was young. Someone who loves food but hates cooking may like the microwave popcorn popper, or the toaster grilled cheese bags (I want these). The entertainer may like to make his own craft beer, have people over to play Beeropoly, or just an instruction manual to mixed drinks along with some bottles of booze to round it out.

My husband is notorious for asking me where his things are. It’s the same thing every day. “Have you seen my wallet? I used to have phone and it was right here. I don’t know where I put my glasses.” Honestly, it drives me insane and I repeatedly tell him to put his stuff in the same spot and he won’t have this issue. He is the type of man who would benefit from number 3 above – the docking station, as well as number 19 for his glasses. You can find all kinds of these handcrafted docking stations on Esty, and can even get them personalized. My husband has number 15 which is a guitar pick maker. You use any old plastic cards to punch out your own picks. He is one that tends to keep old cards for some reason so he has all kinds of picks with his face on them from his old licences and health cards. Nothing says personalized like a guitar pick with your own face on it.

We are almost officially down to one month before Christmas (33 days technically) and I know how much it sucks to do the panic last-minute shopping so embrace the biggest shopping sales of the year coming up (and right now) and get it all done. Then you can sit back and enjoy the holiday season without the shopping stress like me 😉

Here are some early sales to get you started (these sales are as of today).
Old Navy is having 50% off entire purchase
Gap – 50% off everything no exclusions (which is actually huge because they always exclude the items I want)
Nordstrom – Early savings starts now
H&M – Extra 20% off all sale

Check out my other gift guides for this holiday season For Her, and For Kids, and From Etsy.

I can’t be the only one that inwardly panics when they get an invitation to a holiday party. I do a mental flip through my closet to try and figure out what the hell I am going to wear. Even more so when it’s a New Years party because they tend to lean towards more formal. I used to love New Years Eve, but that was back in the day when I could get away with tight pants, a backless halter top, and platform shoes because I was just going to a bar and I would fit in well.

I actually went out out shopping the other day and tried on a million things in order to get some ideas for today’s post (some of the outfits were a complete epic fail). Dresses, pants, heels, boots, and sequins. Lots of sequins. I narrowed down my choices to the pieces that both mixed well and were comfortable. Some I picked based on their looks alone, like the gold wrap dress with fur coat, because it gave me a 1970’s vibe.

I also put together a maternity style outfit, as well as one with all pieces under $40 (the are actually all under $30 except the purse which was $35), and an outfit with all pieces under $20, because who has extra money to spend around the holidays? Not very many, so getting an inexpensive holiday look it important.

Notice the theme of black and faux fur? It couldn’t be helped. I kept gravitating to them and when I would try to find something else instead it didn’t work the way I wanted so I just went back to my first choice. I hope you like some of these 12 outfits that I put together and hope you have a great holiday party season.

Today H&M is having up to 60% off your entire winter wardrobe (you can also get free shipping with the code 9054). It is a good time to find anything for winter you may need without having to battle the Black Friday crowds.

I’m kind of flying by the seat of my pants this holiday season so bear with me. The blog may seem all out of whack this week with me trying to get out as many of the holiday posts that I have, so regular posts may be on different days or skipped entirely this week so you aren’t bombarded with 75 posts in 5 days :/ I actually wish that I had 75 posts sitting there ready but as usual I have all kinds of ideas and will probably finish them all 5 minutes before posting. Way to add stress to yourself Sara. It’s impossible to quietly sit at my computer for any given time without constant interruptions because

  • we live in a 650 sq ft apartment so we are in each others face all day.
  • I homeschool the kids so I don’t have the regular school hours to get stuff done.
  • Merle can’t whisper for shit. I literally got her hearing checked at her last well check because she is so loud that I thought she may have hearing problems.
  • she is also a super momma’s girl and does not like me to be too far from her peripheral vision. She has her “desk” set up about two feet from where I sit right at the edge of my desk, so she sits beside me and crafts and chats while I “work”.
  • I swear they never sleep, so getting things down when they go to bed also doesn’t work well. I think I may have to start getting up at 5 because they definitely don’t like to get up once they are actually sleeping.

So I am getting this out on Sunday night in anticipation to getting something out for tomorrow too. It’s Tom’s birthday today, he’s the big 40 and none too happy about it. He sat around today moping and listening to his Kiss records we bought him and now we are eating a really good cake from Whole Foods. If you get a chance to try their Black Tie cake do it. It’s really good.

Ok, so although Black Friday is technically this Friday, everyone seems to be jumping on the “earlier the better” bandwagon and have released deals already. If you head over to many of your favourite retailers they are having early deals or Pre Black Friday countdowns so you may be able to find some good stuff before Friday and risk it selling out.

  • H&M has up to 60% off tops today. They also have 20% off $60 + free shipping with code 6793. Tomorrow will be a different deal but for the next 7.5 hours you can find some good shirts on sale.
  • Old Navy currently has a pre sale offering 40% off entire purchase with discount taken off a cash (it’s 50% off for card members). I think this deal ends tonight, but it’s a good one. This faux fur coat is $35! Or a velvet blazer for $25 and this colour is gorgeous.
  • Gap is having 45% off with the code GIFT where you can find a faux fur scarf, a cute striped sweater, and I really like this fur lined parka. It’s the perfect time to get a winter coat for you or the kids. I’m fairly certain this was the exact deal that I bought Merle’s winter coat from last year.

I hope the season’s stress isn’t getting to you and that you have a great week!

Weekly Reads and Finds

Camel coats, oversized sweater, leather leggings, Adidas, and Whole Foods

This grainy photo from last night was from when I made a late night dash to Whole Foods (see red circle) to pick up muffins. I am addicted, so if you get the chance to try the Sweet Potato and Marshmallow muffins from there do it. They are amazing.

Did you see the DIY that I posted yesterday? While the photography and layout isn’t great, the whole project wasn’t an epic fail which I call a win.

Ever since Roo saw this pin, she has wanted to replicate it at home. I found him online and I totally want to buy him to surprise them I just don’t know where the hell we’d put him. I don’t know if they would be 100% on board of getting rid of our regular tree in favour of this 😉

Weekly Reads (and maybe videos):

  • This library is officially on my bucket list. I can imagine sitting there for hours at a time. This is one reason that I don’t like living in such a new country. You miss out on wonderful things like this.
  • These Maps of Britain and Ireland’s ancient tribes, kingdoms and DNA are so interestingEver since I found out that I have such deep roots from the UK and it covers about 65% of my DNA I find I have serious interest in the area. I did before too but even more so now. It kind of makes me realize why I had such a draw here to begin with.
  • Did you know that The Smithsonian has a Tween Tribune (and a Smithsonian Junior, and Teen Tribune)? I didn’t either but now I have this site bookmarked for us to check out frequently.
  • I’m not going to lie. This Lasagna Roll looks so damn good. I may have to attempt to make it soon.
  • Here is a trip down memory lane. And also an annoying song to get stuck in to your head. Your welcome 😉

Weekly Finds:

  • Ugh why is J.Crew so expensive? I know they have sales constantly and people have told me never to pay full price there because they are constantly having sales. Anyway, I adore this coat. This is my favourite shade of green. This is for when you love striped shirts but you don’t want them all to look the same. Also, how did I not know that they have clothes for kids?
  • Lord + Taylor is having and extra 15% off with the code LTDAYS. Is it weird that I want a rain slicker? It comes in that green I like I would just worry that I would be too Christmasy with my red rainboots 😉
  • H&M is having up to 50% off select tops (sweaters and jackets are in the list too). I love this wrap cardigan (It comes in brown too), and camel coloured turtleneck sweater. This leopard coat is amazing….I know because I tried it on 3 days ago. And if you are going to any holiday christmas parties I have found the perfect Christmas sweater. I looks and feels like gold garland. It’s fab.
  • Ann Taylor is having 50% off wear now styles and and up to an extra 50% off sale. This skirt is super cute and a great deal. I can picture wearing it with a vintage band tee, and checkered blazer (I have a thing for mixed prints right now). These print pants are cute too (and would wear with the same as above and maybe my new loafers) and with an extra 50% the price is great.
  • Anthropologie is having an extra 40% off sale. This tunic is gorgeous. I’d either half tuck it or loosely tie it on the side. A galaxy print kimono, or a brocade floral belt are like a statement piece additions to an outfit.
  • Remember the episode of Friends where Rachel was buying stuff from Pottery Barn but had to lie because Phoebe hated Pottery Barn? She kept saying it was from Colonial times, or times of yore. It was hilarious. Anyway Pottery Barn is having up various deals in different departments with the percentages of ranging from 20% – 40%. I am a faux fur throw addict and they have a huge selection of them. I’m fairly certain this is for Halloween but I think I might need it just because.
