The heatwave broke a few days ago, and the weather has been spectacular. But of course, the air conditioning finally kicked in when we no longer needed it. Although I have been running it to keep the apartment extra cool, which makes me sleep well.

I sleep so much better when I am cold.

In other news, Google just announced that they are doing a complete overhaul to their search next week. It is going to be ai focused, and the blue links that pop up when you search will no longer be the focus.

Basically, it is going to be like ChatGPT, where it learns about you and then feeds you the information that it thinks you want to hear, instead of directing you to web pages where you can pick and choose what you want to look at.

Another blow to people like me who run sites dependent on searches. So if you still use Google, it is time to switch to other search engines that work in the way a search engine is intended to work.

At this rate, these LLMs are going to run out of new information to steal once they chase everyone off the internet, and they are going to start cannibalising themselves, but Google won’t care because they are already trillionaires.

Some options are Ecosia (they plant trees for every search), Brave Search, and DuckDuckGo. Even Bing is a better choice at the moment.

And, if you don’t mind another subscription, there is Kagi which gives you an actual really good search engine minus ads and gathering personal information.

This new Google is going to cause so many issues.

Changing topics, Part Two of my small summer series came out last night, and it was a fun one to write.

There are lots of sales this weekend, so if you have had your eye on something, it might a good time to grab it cheaper.

My SPF 50 lip balm and SPF 50 sunscreen are currently 30% off. I very much do not like to suntan, and I am also in the market for a big hat.

Today on my way to drop off a package, I saw this dress at Zara and thought it would make a nice summer wedding guest outfit. I loved the colour and the neckline.

I haven’t had to attend a wedding for two years, and I am relieved to be pretty much out of that stage of life. I hate going to weddings.
