This week I went on the hunt for statement pieces. These are single pieces that are so bold and eye-catching that they serve as the visual focal point of an outfit.
It doesn’t matter if the rest of the outfit is completely boring because any of these will do the job they were made for and take your outfit to the next level. Maybe even higher.
There are a few of these that I got really excited about when I saw them, like, for starters, this vintage velvet hooded burnout duster. It is an epic piece.
Velvet dusters/jackets were all over the runway, and you can see why just by looking at this one. I think it might be my favourite piece of the post.
Over jeans and a t-shirt? Yes please.
Next is a Y2K leather wrap jacket with a faux fur collar. It has a gold sheen to the leather and raw edges, which totally enhances the look.

Another favourite piece is this vintage beaded and fringe capelet. It is stunning. Seriously stunning.
It looks like it walked right out of the 1920s or 30s, and I can imagine so many ways to wear this that don’t include a fancy night out.
The world is a dumpster fire; wear your fanciest pieces just because.
Or how about these green leather pants? Why wear black leather when you can wear green?

Sometimes you don’t want to wear anything too overt, but want to give your look a bit of a visual boost. In this instance, I say try a bag or accessory.
Something like these vintage jumbo lens sunglasses.
Or for something a bit more epic, this vintage beaded cummerbund because it is magnificent.

On the bag side of this, we have a Whiting & Davis kisslock bag with a Bakelite or Lucite handle.
Whiting & Davis has a long history of extraordinary pieces. Their chainmail style bags are some of my favourites.
Then there is a green tote that makes a statement.
Note: The inside of the front pocket is peeling, so I am sure there is room to barter in the price, but it does not affect the use of the bag.

Or you can throw on some amazing footwear.
I am in love with the orange flats. They are a showstopper. But what about these boots?
As a 90s teen, I forever love Doc Martens, and this gold brocade pair is incredible. It makes me think of Rococo with a twist of badass.
Like maybe make a Marie Antoinette movie where she doesn’t lose her head, and they’re all Rococo style, but she is also a kickass hero like the Pride & Prejudice Zombie movie/book.
Put her in the brocade boots. Except she had extremely tiny feet, so to be accurate, she might need a kid’s pair.

Beautiful and interesting brooches are another way, like this gold-toned profile of a woman.
Or take your favourite sporty tops in a vibrant colour, and an 80s cut. It makes your look a tad quirky.

Since we are now entering outerwear season, sometimes a coat or jacket is the only way you can express your style because your entire outfit is covered.
So choose something outstanding like this black and purple gothic-style jacket, or this very vintage-style red wool.
They are the type of outerwear where you give off a bit of intrigue.

A set of beautiful earrings is a really easy way to add visual interest as well. This pair is so lovely.
Then lastly, we have an absolutely beautiful Tang style jacket in a cobalt blue that is reversible to red.
How incredible is it?
