Not much to say for tonight, since I thought we were going to die in a nuclear war earlier this week. It kind of made my brain fizzle, and I am glad this seems to be postponed for the time being (insert eyeroll).
Carrying on like normal seems so weird, but one must continue on, especially when one does not have the financial means to take any time off.
So today I had to pick up some groceries for dinner. I waited out the rain, so the walk there was much less unpleasant than it would have been if I had left in the morning.
While I was on my way there, I decided that I would do a quick walk through Zara before I went into the grocery store, since they are close to one another.
There was a purpose to my visit, but they didn’t have what I wanted to see in person, so I looked around instead.
I like to be able to touch and try on things in person if I can before I recommend anything, because it gives me a much better feel for the item than a photograph online does.
The intent was to enter and then do a systematic walk-through in a clockwise direction in order to hit every area quickly before I exited, and there were a few things that caught my eye.
This 100% cotton little fitted blazer/jacket. It isn’t lined and would make a great lightweight layer as the weather gets hotter. It has a bit of a Napoleon jacket vibe with the way the buttons are lined on either side.
Anyway, it is cute, and fitted but true to size. I don’t think you would want to go oversized in this since that’s not the way it is meant to fit.
That one was a neutral, but on the flip side, I saw this jacquard blazer in a raspberry-ish bright pink colour.
It looks so much better in person, and it has a slight shimmer to the fabric. Perfect if you want to add a bold colour.
Another colourful piece is this red suede belt which caught my eye immediately. Seriously, I saw it across the store upon entering, and I beelined there immediately.
It comes in yellow too, but that option wasn’t in the store. I do love a good yellow piece, though.
And then lastly was this bag. While I am not big on woven bags for summer, I loved the stripes and colour of this one, and the contrast with the burgundy handles. Yes, they are burgundy, not dark brown.
Also, it is a small handbag versus a large tote. It was really cute.
I feel like I am vibing for bold accent pieces this spring and summer, where I usually want to strip it all back and go minimalist. Maybe it’s because the world is a clusterfuck, and this makes me feel good.
I don’t know.
Oh yeah, I also wanted to share that my Napoleon jacket is coming back in stock, so that is fun. I have gotten a lot of use out of it already, and I have only had it for about a month.
But now on to beauty. I am all about simplicity when it comes to beauty. I don’t spend a lot of time on hair and makeup, and I generally like to use the least amount of things that I can.
A ten-step beauty regimen is not for me.
A few weeks ago, I talked about this lip tint that I use to not make me look like a sickly Victorian woman. It gives my lips a natural colour, rather than them blending in with my skin.
I wear it every day, and will sometimes throw on some intense pink gloss for a bit of oomph, even though it isn’t very intense once on.
But this week I tried out a multi stick which is for lips and cheeks, and I love it too, but for different reasons.
The colour I got is Dear Ruby, which looks like an orange-based red, but since the stick isn’t heavily pigmented, it actually goes on very light and sheer, and you can build it up depending on how intense you want it.
So what looks like it should be a bold colour isn’t, but it gives me a nice option without looking like I have done my makeup for an evening out.
I also tried out the skin-blurring foundation stick, which is like wizardry on my dark under eye circles, even though I got a colour too light. Next time, I am going to try the 12 Sycamore, which they recommend with their shade guide.
Unfortunately, I didn’t see the guide until after I ordered it, so I picked it by visual comparisons and took a gamble.
I don’t use it all over my face because on certain areas of my skin, foundation can get cakey due to dryness. I basically keep it to under my eyes, around my nose and mouth.
I don’t have a heavy hand when it comes to foundation, which works well, especially as the weather is getting hotter, and I like to keep it light so I don’t sweat my face off.
Which might happen next week as the weather warms and the sunshine makes my apartment feel like a greenhouse. I wish it were time for the central air switchover since I haven’t turned my heat on in weeks, but I think we have a while to go still.
This in-between time sucks.
