I often talk about how I am a stress shopper. When things are bad and uncertain, and I have stress and anxiety, it often makes me nauseous and I can’t eat, so being a stress eater doesn’t work.
Shopping, though? Being able to zone out while hunting down treasures and deals? That is the way I tend to deal with things.
I recognised this about myself quite a long time ago, so I make a conscious effort to rein it in, but man, this past year has really tested my willpower.
To combat this, I also try to divert that urge to shop towards the secondhand and vintage market. I figure, buying secondhand is better than continuous packages of fast fashion items.
With secondhand shoppin,g I find I have to slow down and pay attention, so I don’t get sucked into the impulse urge to buy, and it has really helped me.
So this week is a compilation of things that I came across while stress shopping, and I redirected them to this post instead.
To start, I am forever seeking a snake print handbag, and I really like the size and shape of this one. The print also matches my boots.
I am not a shorts person, but I do love cropped pants and culottes like these, which are vintage Celine.

I can always tell a 90s jacket just by looking, like this first pin stripe, zip front. I love the jagged hem; it reminds me of pieces by Issey Miyake.
Another snake print thing I am seeking is a coat. I want something longer than this one, but I like it, and one of you might as well.

A rich cognac is such a lush leather colour like this jacket. I actually really love this piece with the slightly puffed shoulders and covered buttons.
It’s just so modern looking, and would be a great wardrobe staple.
We all know I love a tuxedo-style jacket, and the mixed fabrics in this give a great visual play with textures.

Why do I have shorts if I don’t wear them? Because they are ridiculously cute.
They are by Moschino and are a Bermuda length. This print is perfect for spring and summer, too, since we are going to be seeing an influx of polka dots.
Zebra print is another favourite.
I have been looking for a bag and saw this. It is a bit smaller than what I was looking for but would be a great little summer bag.
Some visual interest when paired with a minimal outfit.

This vintage Dior knit skirt is amazing. It actually looks like the skirts that I have seen this season.
As a person who does not wear tons of heels, these are one of those, one-and-done pairs. The kind that you can wear with anything for any occasion.

Once again, the vintage Prada sport shoes catch my eye. These Mary Janes are perfection with their little heel.
One day, I will find a pair in my size.
I adore Miista and their aggressively square toes, which they often have in their footwear. These mules are a great example.
I said this spring and summer was going to be the season of the mule for me since I don’t like or wear sandals, and these check all the boxes.
The colour, pony hair, heel height, and toe shape are the whole package.

Who doesn’t want a vintage Celine jacket for a bargain?
This little stunner is a steal and will be a great addition to any closet.
I adore charteuse so my eye instantly went to this jacket. Then, to my surprise, when I read the listing, it is in fact a set that has a matching skirt.
The price too, a damn good deal.

Fun fact: I love dragons.
An even more fun fact: I only have one tattoo, and it is of a dragon that resembles this one, but less detailed. So when I saw this brooch, I wanted it.
And my final pick is this leather and pony hair bag by Ferragamo. It’s minimalist with a touch of edge.

And that is it.
Just to add a little extra stress while I stress shop, I decided to rewatch The Handmaid’s Tale. I tell you, it hits much differently than it did the first watch.
There is a whole lot of familiarity and “well, fuck” moments now.
