This week I am thinking about gifts and evening wear. I’m not the only one who doesn’t quite understand how we’re already into the holiday season.
I also can’t be the only one who really loves to both give and receive secondhand and vintage items as presents, am I?
For some, I know that they don’t like the thought of gifting a secondhand item unless it was specifically asked for. It is one of those “understand who your audience is” situations.
There are certain people who will not appreciate it, and then there are those who will love it.
Me? I love it for both giving and receiving. Especially if it involves hunting down something that I know someone will treasure for life.
So, today I have a list of items that I personally would love to receive, but also pieces that would work really well for holiday parties (depending on the level of dressy).
First off, we have top-handle bags. There is something so perfectly classic about these two bags.
We have a Ferragamo, which has made variations of the same styles for decades, as well as this vintage Moschino bag that has hearts on the handles for a bit of whimsy.

Next on my want list is an extra-long, ankle-length jacket. The Alberta Ferretti champagne jacket is a dream. I would wear that for any occasion, not just dressy.
The second is by Armani, and it is less dressy, but no less great.
Black is definitely more versatile and makes more sense in the current, getting messy outside season.

I always love coming across a vintage Calvin Klein treasure like this leather jacket. It is a men’s xs, so quite wearable for even women of smaller stature.
This vintage Miu Miu blouse would make a perfect gift for me. This, my friends, is an auction.
So if you do not like the anxiety of bidding on an auction, then it isn’t for you.
Fwiw, I have noticed that items I have been watching, which were auctions, have been going for significantly less than what I expected them to.
No one seems to be sweeping in last minute to dramatically increase the bids.
I just watched a Large Fendi Peekaboo bag go for less than $400. I regret not bidding, because I assumed it would go to 800-900 for one in that condition.
It is sometimes worth the stress.

Forever on the hunt for vintage Carolle necklaces like this one. They are known for their multistrand necklaces, specifically pearls, but I just loved how different his one was.
We all know I love a piece of jewellery that is based on an animal like this tiger ring.
All you need to wear is this one ring to make a statement.

I am not usually one for plaid/check print tops, but the colours and shape of this one really caught my eye. It is very modern-looking but is 90s archival.
As I was writing this, I noticed that the Etsy shop for this Valentino sweater is on a break, but I wanted to include it anyway because it is such a great piece.
It is from the 80s, and from the Miss Valentino line. This is a stunning long cardigan and is worth waiting for them to come back from the break.

Shoes are one of my weaknesses.
How about some black velvet mules? These are gorgeous and would look good with almost anything.
This second pair is something that would be the ultimate gift for me. Vintage Miu Miu shoes are like my shoes.
Any time I see a pair in my size, I want to cry. This pair might fit, but I usually need a 39 in Miu Miu. One day I will buy some.

This vintage Dior camisole is like a short nightie, and I would absolutely wear this layered under shirts and sweaters, like it is currently trending.
I would also wear this over somthing, and tucked into something. Needless to say, I would wear this piece.
This vintage Prada blouse is so perfect. Do you ever just dream of completely overhauling your wardrobe and replacing it with individual, perfect pieces like these two?
Like, can you imagine just having one rack of clothes, where every single piece is a gem like this? I have something to ponder.

And lastly, I have two pieces by Marni.
I actually could have done a completely Marni dedicated post this week because I had so many Marni items set aside.
While Marni can often lean into weird or different, these have a very minimal Carolyn Bessette feel to them that I love. I also love the height of the heels.

And that is it.
I wasn’t joking when I said above that I had some serious thinking to do about my wardrobe.
There is something so very special and satisfying about finding the most absolutely perfect pieces for your wardrobe versus temporarily satisfying yourself with pieces that are just okay.
We need to strive for special and perfect pieces for you. Some definite brain rewiring is needed, though.
Have a great week.
