Weekly Secondhand Finds XXXI

a collage of different types of women's clothing and accessories. All vintage or secondhand.

Here we are with another of my favourite posts of the week. I always look forward to this one. And even more so lately, since there seems to have been a larger shift by the population to shop secondhand.

I have actually found myself recently cancelling orders of new items, in order to seek out pieces that are secondhand instead.

My satisfaction rate for these purchases is generally quadruple what they are when I buy new.

That doesn’t mean that I never find new items that I like. I really like the Free People bloomers that I bought recently.

I wasn’t sure about them at first, but I am finding them very fun and versatile for summer.

Plus, they are comfortable to wear in really high temperatures. I gave it a test during our extreme heat wave last week.

I am going to start off by diving into my current fixation.

Longchamp bags, and while I like and appreciate most of the styles, my current focus was on a leather version of the Le Pliage tote, and vintage bowler-style bags.

I actually found a leather pliage from one of my favourite Japanese resellers. This green nylon pliage is from that reseller also, so I can vouch for them.

I was really drawn to the greens. It is like a perfect everyday tote that apparently holds a shit ton depending on the size you get.

This croc embossed bag is also from Longchamp and is such a statement piece. Between the colour and the texture, you have a winner.

In my opinion, it is never too early to source jackets, and sometimes these jackets are more geared for warmer weather.

This white Moschino with the heart pockets is a delight for me. It is minimalist in cut and colour, but with so much personality.

This green jacket is one of those “meant for warmer weather” jackets that I was talking about.

It is actually made mostly from mesh, and with the peplum is so much fun. Seriously. SO MUCH FUN.

We know my love of a drop crotch, and these harem pants from Margiela would be so cute and interesting paired with a tank for summer.

BUT, this boat neck shirt is also from Margiela, and these two pieces look like they could almost be worn as a matching set.

Matching sets are so in right now and this one is way better than the linen sets that look like pyjamas.

Some pendant-ish style necklaces to dress up your summer look.

First is by Thierry Mugler, which is probably one of the only things by vintage Mugler that I could afford.

This second is a statement necklace with a large gold pendant and lapis lazuli blue colour beads.

Picture that over a white tank, paired with the harem pants. I am building you a look here.

And then throw on these Dries Van Noten black little heels.

These heels have some scuffs which would cause many people to pass them up. This is where the vision comes in.

A little bit of cleaning them and some black polish, and these heels will look stellar once again. You have to look at the bigger picture when buying secondhand.

Sometimes you have to put in a bit of work.

Then I have some ballet pink Ferragamo flats.

Ferragamo makes beautiful leather shoes and bags, and are one of the underrated luxury brands that have been around forever.

This sheer bohemian blouse is a fantastic summer piece.

If you check out the actual listing you can see more details.

It is hard to envision it just hanging flat on this mannequin; it is one of those pieces that you need to see in motion or up close to get a better idea.

While this mixed-media button-up is listed as a mini dress, I feel like it probably is a shirt. Not many people want to wear a dress that short.

So I would wear this as a shirt. I love the layered look without actually having to layer it yourself. It is much easier this way.

Vintage beaded bags are a great summer bag choice.

This one is from the 70s, but there are some beautiful styles that you can even find from the 20s and 30s, although they are usually a lot more delicate.

For an everyday use piece, I would look for styles from the 1960s-80s.

I’m not sure what it is about them, but I really am drawn to insect brooches.

I am sure that this spider would startle me when I looked in the mirror or saw it in the corner of my eye, but I think the fun factor outweighs the fear factor for me.

Silk camisoles are really in right now, and you can find a bazillion camisoles on the fast fashion websites, but 95% of those won’t be silk.

They will be polyester, which is so gross feeling in the summer.

We want natural, breathable fabrics that last, and silk is one of those. This dusty pink one would be perfect to wear alone in the summer, or layer it over a turtleneck in the fall and winter.

Norma Kamali is one of THOSE brands. And by that I mean you will never be disappointed with anything you source all the way back to her vintage archives, (which are highly sought after).

This off the shoulder dress is one of the simple and easy to wear pieces. Dressed up, or dressed down with minimal effort.

Grab and go without much thought, which is something I seek in my wardrobe.

I have a couple of extra pieces tonight because I couldn’t narrow it down.

This little vintage floral top reminds me of the 70s, but it’s probably from the 90s. It is cute and easy to wear.

These red snake print loafers are my favourite piece of the post, and if they were an 8 or 8.5 I would have snapped them up.

Buy them now and save them for fall, or buy them now and wear them all year. They are that good.

That is it.

The sun is setting, which means we are getting to the loud musical portion of tonight’s Canada Day festivities that are taking place across the street.

Then fireworks, unless it decides to rain.

So I hope it rains.
