I just finished baking a cake for Merle’s 10th birthday which is tomorrow. I can’t believe she will be double digits. Can we freeze it for a bit? Because this time flies shit is insane.

She wanted a chocolate cake with cherry filling between the layers which meant that I had to bake instead of buy. I used this recipe and substituted the icing in between the layers for cherry pie filling.

We shall see how it tastes.

I also have a feeling that it will fall apart when I cut it. Fingers crossed that it holds.

I am a decent baker but suck at the presentation, so while it usually tastes good it is never very pretty.

I also completely suck at icing a cake.

Tom is in the bedroom with his tools fixing some of the vintage Alvin and the Chipmunks pieces that he ordered her for her birthday off of eBay.

Some of their arms and heads were loose/falling off, but they are fixable and she’ll be thrilled regardless of what condition they are in.

I have to go wrap a few things too.

With her birthday so close to Christmas it’s hard to separate the Christmas from the birthday gifts because her wish lists contain the same things.

I usually just end up buying a bunch of stuff off of her list and then picking a few pieces to give her for her birthday.

We even use Christmas wrapping paper since she loves everything Christmas.

And when asked “What would you like for your birthday dinner?” she replies:

Tacos.

At least she is predictable.

Now I have to go play Mario Kart with her before bed, which actually won’t be until midnight because she waits up to open her presents just like her sister does.

Stay safe.
