Welcome Denmark’s rainy season, so don’t forget to pack your waterproof gear. As September rolls in to October the days get seemingly shorter, and the evening temperature begins to make some notable drops.

Building a Denmark packing list for autumn is still quite easy regardless of the weather. Side note: I’m trying get into the habit of saying Autumn instead of fall and it’s not easy 😉

Denmark weather is like Canadian weather and has very distinct seasons. Except it doesn’t get quite the extremes that we get here in Southern Ontario with our hot and humid summers and bitterly cold winters.

This means that lightweight layers with a raincoat, and proper footwear are important. I included a longer jacket for cooler evenings, as well as a raincoat for daytime excursions. A pair of flats, comfortable walking shoes, and some waterproof boots round out the travel footwear.

Scandinavian style tends to be casual, but they like well fitting pieces, and well put together outfits so practical items that you love to wear and look great on you should be the basis of your Copenhagen packing list.

If you travel itinerary includes a lot of different sightseeing in Copenhagen then you need to make sure that your travel wardrobe reflects that. You don’t want to have to miss out on any great Denmark tourist attractions because you neglected to plan the right outfits.

To avoid that for this travel wardrobe I included some leggings that can be paired with the sweatshirt, t-shirt, and oversized cardigan in case you plan on doing any substantial walking or hiking through some of Denmark’s nature sites.

For this autumn packing list I kept is fairly neutral using dark blues, camel, black and grey. For a nice pop of colour I selected a red sweater. I love a great red sweater.

You can either wear the sneakers or the boots as footwear since the boots are Clarke’s and reviewed to be very comfortable with a slip proof, and sturdy sole. They remind me of an chic hiking boot.

*Remember that these are just a guideline. No one will ever pack the exact same travel capsule, and no one expects you to follow this to the finest detail. It’s  just suggestion to give you some ideas of how what types of clothes will work and how you can combine those to make enough travel outfits so that you have a completely versatile travel wardrobe.

I’ve been on a capsule wardrobe kick this summer. It has me thinking hard about impulse shopping and the fact that people think they need to replace items seasonally because their prices begin to look worn or are in need of repair.

Once upon a time I would have done that as well, but I am looking to get many seasons out of everything I buy regardless of its price point.

As a part of this I invested in a fabric shaver.  Even though it was rather inexpensive it has great reviews, so I thought I would give it a shot. It has breathed new life in to many of my older sweaters. I can’t believe I didn’t buy one sooner. How do you feel about repairing and maintaining what you have already?

  1. Brava on this particular travel wardrobe. To your point, it could easily transition into a general capsule wardrobe. Love the deep hues and well everything weaves together. Well done you. Cheers, Ardith

    • I was thinking about how easy it would be to transition to a fall wardrobe too! This season always gets me inspired fashion-wise. I have decided that I need a nice raincoat though. I do way too much walking to not have something that is completely waterproof.

  2. I’m a bit late to the game here but I like this a lot. The only concern I would have is the wool coat, which I would definitely wear at home in Canada, but would find it bulky to take on a trip. Great inspiration for my trip to Denmark this year.

    • Anything bulky I suggest wearing on the plane. Layers are your friend when packing light 😂 there are some really great lightweight packable jackets now though if that is your concern. Using compressible packing cubes are another option as well.
