What to Pack for San Francisco

San Francisco is considered to be one of the most stylish and coolest cities in the United States, but it is also has some of the most unpredictable weather across the country which makes it hard to pack for.
You can be basking in the warm summer sun one minute and then all of a sudden the frequent visitor Karl comes rolling in. The locals name the fog Karl, and he even has his own Twitter.
When you think of California, most people immediately think sun, celebrities, beaches. Everything that we see via tv and movies gives a us a preconceived notion of what we think California will be like. This is why so many people pack for California wrong, because they think it will all be like Los Angeles.
San Francisco has an such an incredibly cool vibe, which is to be expected from a city where hippies originated. Although the constantly changing weather makes choosing your travel wardrobe hard, so pay close attention the the weather channel. This is a must.
Regardless of what time of year you will be travelling to San Francisco you will need a jacket. Summers aren’t even all that warm (in terms of California) unless there is a heat wave rolling through. You will need a jacket.
For this reason I included a backpack for the San Francisco packing list. You will want something that is big enough to put your jacket in because you will wear it at some point during the day. I also chose a crossbody because crime in San Francisco is high, and crossbodies allow you to keep your purse close to your body, especially when you shorten the strap.
Chances are you will be walking a ton around this hilly city, so make sure to have comfortable walking shoes. It is the hilliest city in the USA, and apparently the second hilliest city in the world. Remember that when selecting your shoes 😉
I decided to really embrace the San Francisco fashioned vibe and incorporate a little bit of a boho feel with my some of my selections, including a wrap top with high waist jeans. I also made sure to include a nice polished dress if you choose to do a day trip to Napa Valley/Sonoma.
San Francisco also has a lot of things going in during its summer months. Music festivals, nature sites, amazing vintage shopping, and don’t forget it is a short drive to wine country.
*I own those Tread by Everlane sneakers and they are ridiculously comfortable. I love mine (I have them in the black). I also have the black jeans.
