We are going through the polar vortex cold snap at the moment and it’s awful. I

f any of you are living in the areas that are experiencing it too, I am right there with you.

Take care and try to stay warm. I

t’s brutally cold and dangerous out there, and I am so scared for the people and animals that have no place to escape it.

I know many businesses, and churches will open their doors to the homeless, but I also know that a lot of them won’t go. I hope they are able to stay safe.

Tonight to mentally escape this weather, I have a travel packing list for a 7 days in Budapest in April.

April sees weather in the mid to high teens (celsius), with maybe a low 20’s thrown in as you reach the end of the month.

Even though this isn’t summer weather you will want to bring a swimsuit with you to enjoy the thermal baths.

…And if you are like a huge number of women you may have asymmetrical boobs.

This can cause some swimsuit shopping problems if it is an issue for you.

Although this is a problem that a lot of women have, finding swimsuits that are specifically for this issue aren’t easily found.

There are mastectomy suits that have built-in bras with prosthesis pockets available at many retailers (which is super awesome).

But the best advice I was able to dig upon this subject is to get a swimsuit that has removable padding (or easily removable if they are stitched in) and then use the padding to double up on the smaller side.

This may or may not work well depending on your breast size, so if you need to add extra you can easily find some swimsuit padding on Amazon that can be stitched in or attached with velcro.

Swimsuit aside for your travel capsule wardrobe you should pack for regular spring weather with a nice coat, proper footwear, and enough clothing variety to cover all of your Budapest itineraries.

Side Note: If you are looking to travel Budapest on a budget The Savvy Backpacker has a great guide. They have a lot of great travel guides.

*It’s been noted that bringing flip-flops for the baths is a good idea, especially since some may look less than desirable although the waters are clean. Any cheap dollar store pair will do the job.

I hope that this can be helpful for your next Europe packing list!

  1. My husband and I went to Budapest last January, and we went to the beer spa at the szechenyi thermal baths. I don’t know if this rule applies to every bath house, but you have to bring your own towel or else they will charge you to use one of their own. I would definitely wear loose clothing as I found it difficult to squeeze back into skinny jeans after being in such hot temperature! It’s on the quieter side of the city, but nice to wander around afterwards and take in the surrounding area, e.g. Heroe’s Square. We stayed at the Corinthia and it was a great location. A bit of a hike to the Danube but well worth it for all the stuff you see along the way.

    • A beer spa sounds amazing! Did is smell super beery? Walking around cities is my favourite thing to do. There is always so much stuff that you would have never seen otherwise. The immersion is so much more of an experience than hitting every tourist spot.

  2. so how the beer spa works is that you reserve a room based on the size in your party, and you have a corresponding number of tubs in said room. it was just the two of us, and we each took a tub. the worker comes in and pours dry hops and some other powder ingredients that are used in beer making and stirs it all up. it didn’t smell that “hoppy” or “yeasty”, but they said it was really good for your skin. you just sit there in your tub, drinking as much beer as you can in your allotted time, and they bring in some bread with butter and paprika on it as a snack. we went the afternoon we landed in budapest and it was a great way to kick off our city break.
we walked sooooo much, and i should have brought better socks, because my feet definitely paid for it!

    • That sounds really neat actually. I remember reading somewhere that many of the ingredients in beer are good for your skin, so this is a cool idea. I’m glad it doesn’t smell too much because it would suck wandering around town afterwards smelling like you’ve done some serious drinking 😂 It’s funny how you don’t realize how crucial good socks are until you are paying for it.

  3. Thank you so much Sara for this amazing packing list and as usual great advice regarding the swimsuit!!!
