You will notice that I specified that this list is for what to Pack for Malta in April. While it will technically cover most of the spring/fall weather, as you go into May and the temperatures rise you will need to pick options that are more suited for the warming weather. In the summer months Malta can be quite hot and a warm weather destination list will be needed.

In April Malta’s temperatures average 18°C – 22°C and if you go to the predicted weather you will see that it looks as though this April will follow suit. The lows can be in the early teens and the wind and evenings can lean towards cool at this time of year so layers will be your friend, but note that even when it is not summer the sun is strong so a high SPF suntan lotion is recommended.

Malta is known as quite a casual city so a smart-casual wardrobe will be completely appropriate. Jeans are a popular choice through all the seasons (even during the hot summer paired with camisoles, sandals, and cuffed). Dining out is generally a casual affair, even in expensive restaurants, and outdoor seating is a popular choice. It is also important to note that Malta is a devoutly religious Catholic  country, so cathedrals and churches may refuse you entry if you are not appropriately attired (covered shoulders and knees in both men and women, and oversized scarves come in handy for this reason if your shoulders are uncovered). I chose some embroidered flats since the rest of the wardrobe is quite neutral the flats bring a fun, accent piece to the choices without be overwhelming.

Most of the shorelines are rocky so flats are a good choice. While the temperatures are ideal at this time of year I chose to include a light jacket that also doubles as a blazer style coat but is roomy enough to layer a sweater under when the temperatures drop at night, or if you are touring the underground temples, war rooms, or catacombs.

I received two requests for Malta over the last few weeks and both were for spring so I thought I should jump on that since those trips coming up fast. I hope this can give you some ideas on what kind of things to bring with you and will show you how you can wear them to get the most options in the next post.

*Just as I posted this I read an article saying that Malta’s Azure window which is a popular tourist attraction collapsed in to the sea from high winds. Although not unexpected because of natural corrosion it’s still sad to lose such a beautiful site.

The morbid me really wants to tour some catacombs. Have you ever been to any?

Please excuse the tardiness. It’s Merle’s birthday today, and while we celebrated yesterday (Tom’s only day off until Christmas eve) I didn’t want to spend the whole day on the computer. I haven’t got my shit together enough to get posts ready weeks in advance, so I pretty much finish them just before I hit publish.

What to Pack for the Amalfi Coast is a combination of several requests for various cities in Italy in spring. I couldn’t do an individual one for each because it was 11 requests which would be a lot of work and a lot of repetition. The trips range from 2 weeks to a month so I am making this one for 2 weeks. With 2 weeks worth of clothes and access to a washing machine you easily have enough clothes and outfit options to cover you for a month.

The cities/regions that this covers are Rome, Amalfi Coast, Cinque Terre, Tuscany, and Naples. I emailed back several people in regards to their preferences in style and colour but never heard back so look at these lists in general terms not necessarily by style (since it’s based on things I like). T-shirts, skirts, jeans, sweaters, shoes are all open to your own interpretation. I give you ideas of what sort of items you should bring and then you pick items in those categories suited to your tastes. The key is to find a colour palette and base it on that so everything is cohesive.

Spring in Italy is one of the greatest travelling times because there won’t be as many tourists, the flowers are blooming, and the heat isn’t extreme. The average temperature of these cities during the month of April is 14°C, with a high of 20°C and low of 9°C. To me these temperatures are perfect, you can wear sweaters, mid-lightweight jackets, but have enough layerable items in case the day gets warmer when you are sightseeing.

I included a swim suit in case the weather accommodates one or you stay in places that have pools. The purse in reversible to a solid black on the other side, which is an easy way to get some variety in your handbag. Outfit options will be in the next post.

I typed this after 4 cups of coffee so excuse me if it seems disjointed 😉

What to Pack for Washington D.C. for 10 Days

What to Pack for Washington DC for 10 days in April #packinglist #travellight #packinglight #travel #traveltips© Can Stock Photo / Shakzu

After skipping last week while I was trying to get some gift guides out I am back to a packing list this week. I received a request from a woman who is going to Washington D.C. at the beginning of April as a chaperone for her son’s school trip. She is stumped for what to pack for this trip as they are only allowed a carry-on. This being a school trip I assume there will be a lot of sightseeing that will involve a mix of dressy-casual, and casual outfits depending on the itinerary.  I included some simple and easy to wear items that are both comfortable, and dressy when needed by some easy pairings.

I always encourage that you pack a couple of tank tops or camisoles because they take up little to no room and are perfect for layering under sweaters, cardigans, blazers, and even as a sleepwear option if necessary. This time of year in Washington is when the Cherry Blossom Festival is and would be beautiful to see and experience.

I played with some different colour combinations here because I was feeling the jewel tones. The coat is a mid-weight which is perfect for April’s unpredictability and is in a beautiful plum colour. The blazer is for a lighter jacket option, but it pays to check the forecast leading up to the day you depart so you know what type of jacket you need to bring. I added some accents of a rich green, with some leopard (because I love leopard mixed with jewel tones). The wrap shirt is multi purpose because it can be worn as a shirt over a camisole or open as a light cardigan.  The key to packing light is to pack things that you can wear in several different ways so you can make the most out of what you bring. I hope these pieces give you some ideas for your trip.

The outfit options are in this post.

Have you ever been to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington?

What to Pack for The Pacific Northwest

Every morning I try to answer emails and messages that I get from people. Sometimes it takes me a couple of days to get caught up (Sometimes a little longer if your message didn’t forward to me properly). I want you to know that I read each one and am really trying to respond to everything but sometimes I may miss a few. If you have sent me a message via email, my blog contact page, Instagram comment or DM, Twitter, or via a blog comment and I have not responded yet I may have missed it or I may not have received it. I am sorry if that is the case and if you contact me again I will get back to you in 1-2 days. Thank you for all the compliments, suggestions, and requests. It really does help to keep me motivated and lets me see that my hobby benefits some of you.

This packing list comes via blog comment. The request is for 7 days in Oregon in the fall. I broadened to the Pacific Northwest since temperatures and weather won’t fluctuate too much through those states and in to the Southern part of British Columbia. Pick several items from this list for your travel outfit and you are left with 3 shirts, a sweater, a dress, 2 pairs of pants, a purse and two pairs of shoes to pack. You could easily just travel with two pairs of shoes instead of three but I added the flats and dress in case there was an opportunity to dress up. The rest of the choices are casual neutrals, that mix and match together very well.

The outfit options for this list can be found in this post.

Happy First Day of fall to my readers in the Northern Hemisphere 🙂

What to Pack for Germany and Austria

I’m going to start this off with saying that I think I broke my toe last night on our ottoman. I’m prone to stubbing my toe but man did it ever hurt. My baby toe immediately swelled up like a little grape and within 30 minutes the top of my foot running towards the toes was purple. Even the blanket lying on it last night was painful. Today I have hobbled around the house with the girls Gandalf wizard stick. I’m sure I will look cute walking down the street with it 😉

Back to business. Every so often I like to go back to an old packing list and update it with new suggestions. With how fast retail changes over seasons and stock, so many items get sold out and people will often message me asking if I know where they can find anything like the sold out item.

I got an email about my Vienna, Austria packing list from last April. It was from a woman in her 50’s who is going on a Danube River Christmas Market Cruise in November and wanted to know if I had an updated list. I told her that I would try to pull as many updated items as I could and email her. I decided it would be better to put together a whole new post for her so she can have the visual guidance as well. I tried to follow a similar colour theme and style as the original.

A Danube River Cruise to see all the Christmas Markets is on my bucket list. Christmas is my favourite time of year and to experience the markets that have been there for centuries would be amazing. While November isn’t in the middle of winter the weather can be quite chilly, especially being on the water so a nice weather appropriate jacket and layers are important.

Several sweaters, pants, leggings/tights to wear under dresses, and a scarf or two. I decided to include a wool hat in this list because it can be more dressy but I would probably bring a knit hat as well, it wouldn’t take up much room. Jeans in a darker wash are very versatile, and any pair of black pants in a cut and fabric that works best on your body and is your style. I tend to lean towards a very straight or skinny cut because I like the ease of tucking them into boots. Don’t forget your gloves or mittens. Outfit Options will be in the next post.

Have you ever been on a Christmas Market Cruise? What was it like?
