It’s currently Saturday night as I write this and once again I have a headache. I am tempted to try to medicate it with wine (probably a bad idea) or coffee which sometimes helps. But the problem with coffee is that I will be up to all hours. I don’t know if the pros outweigh the cons in this situation. I do really want to finish my book tonight so maybe coffee it is.

A few weeks ago my friend Niki posted a vintage handbag she has had for years. It inspired me to search my closet because I had a fantastic one that I bought when I was a teen and I haven’t seen it for a while. I was getting concerned that I might have purged it in an overzealous closet clean-out. I did do that to a hand tooled bag that had flowers and mushrooms painted on in it. I am seriously sad at my stupidity over that one. DON’T EMOTIONAL CLOSET PURGE PEOPLE! The bag is shown above in picture 3, and 4 and honestly, sometimes I don’t think you can find a better purse than a vintage one. They have so much personality (and are so durable).

I decided recently that I want to jump on the kimono trend for this summer. I find as I get older I am getting picky with what trend I want to try each season but there are just so many beautiful kimonos out there. I’ve been out trying them on recently and am a little iffy about the length. I want a full length one which always seems to hit mid calf on the model and me at the ankle which might seem overwhelming on my short frame. Or maybe I can just own it and my attitude will pull it off 😉 Zara has some gorgeous ones and I *think* I’ve narrowed it down to two choices (here and here) but every time I say that they add another one online and I second guess myself. I feel that this will be a great summer staple and it will get a lot of use from me, because while I hate to wear shorts I might be inclined to wear them with a long kimono over. So it’s like wearing shorts, but not wearing shorts. Which sounds weird but might psychologically talk me in to wearing them. I never said I wasn’t an odd-ball).

What do you think of the kimono trend?

It is that time of year again friends, the time when I begin Christmas shopping. Yep. Christmas.

I mentioned this before but I like to spread my purchases over the year to make it affordable.

There are too many expenses around Christmas to wait and buy everything at once, and it is an unreliable working time for Tom because film studios usually close for extended time over the holidays. Last year was almost two months which meant we had to really tighten the purse strings.

As I write this it is Sunday afternoon and I am sweating because it is 20°C+ today. Our condo has certain times of the year where they will switch from heat to air conditioning and from central air back to heat. Usually the heat gets switched on at the beginning of November and the central air goes on Victoria Day weekend (towards the end of May) so if it gets cold or hot on off-season times you have to suffer 😉 I’m not complaining thought because we don’t pay for either, it is included in our rent. It would be nice to have a little cross breeze coming through the windows though.

I just started watching Girlboss and so far I love it. I can kind of relate to the beginning where she sells vintage clothes on Ebay. I used to do that too in the Early to mid 2000’s and to quit due to Ebay’s policies and it changing way too much to be profitable anymore. It was fun though and I totally miss those days on Ebay. And while I am on topic of buying and selling clothes on Ebay I found a killer pair of Converse at Value Village on Saturday. They are an off-white with silver studs on the side Have yet to take a picture). They were only $6.99 and I got 30% off because we had a discount coupon for donating a lot of things. It literally pays to purge your closet and home. Roo found a million t-shirts as well. I wish there was one a little closer (like walkable) so we could hit it on weekdays instead of weekends when Tom isn’t working and the car is home.

It’s the end of an era and my old college watering hole is closing after 152 years. This is depressing in a “I can’t believe it’s over” sort of way. So many great memories, many of which are foggy, and one which ended in “borrowing” a bike and doing a drunk biking pub crawl.

* I posted the picture of this pink dress on Instagram asking for opinions about it. I bought it because I liked the print and colour, but I don’t really like wearing short dresses. The dress’ hem is unfinished so it would be easy to shorten it a couple of inches to have it as a long tee/tunic top. I got mixed opinions on whether to shorten it or leave it so what do you think?

Cleaning tactic 101: “accidentally” let is slip that the easter Bunny need cleans places to hide chocolate. My 6-year-old was scrubbing baseboards and wiping dust off of shelves. I need to figure out someway to bring this kind of motivation in to our daily lives 😉

As per usually we hit the Value Villages on a weekly basis, and when Tom went before work last week he found Merle a pair of barely worn, floral, leather, 8 hole Doc Marten’s in size 1. They are slightly big but will be a perfect fit and boot for fall. Roo is jealous because she grew out of her Doc’s and wants another pair but since she has moved in to women’s sizes in footwear the cost for Doc Marten’s for her has quadrupled so we haven’t replaced them yet.

I’ve recently discovered two Spotify playlists that are like being reunited with old friends (one an Instagram friend told me about)  and the other I came across accidentally. Between the two I get my fill of my favourite musical time period (aside from 80’s music which I adore). I’m sure my kids roll their eyes every time I turn my music on, although Merle has decided that she likes The Cranberries. True story: I kind of met Dolores O’Riordan once years ago when I was managing the skateboard shop West49. She had a cottage nearby (where I lived was considered part of cottage country) and was at the mall. That was probably the highlight of my time working there.

As per usually the weekend flew by even though it was a long one. Here’s to a shorter week (for those that have Monday off). I hope you all have a good one 🙂

I got sucked into an internet hole on the theory of Edgar Allan Poe potentially having a time machine. It’s fascinating stuff and because I would love to use a time machine, I really want to believe that he did actually have one. A funny thing when I get lost in these internet holes (usually a Wikipedia hole) is that no matter what I start looking at, for some reason or another I end up at the page for a monarch in British history. It’s so bizarre. I started with Edgar Allan Poe and ended up at Edward the Black Prince this time. I can’t even pinpoint where my path changed. It’s fun though, and I do it often.

This first week in April was typically Canadian. Friday I had to break out the winter coats again, while today I am wearing a summer dress. And this is one of the reasons that strictly seasonal capsules don’t work for me. Things just change too fast, and too often to keep only one season in my closet at a time. I remember eons ago in college there was a ridiculously hot day in April (30+°C) and it brought everyone out that night in hordes. I was wearing a long, sarong type skirt, with a tank top, my trusty jean jacket (which I still have), and some platform sandals (early 2000’s fashion). All the patios at the clubs were open and flooded with people so we went to a strictly indoor dance club. When we left at 2am it was snowing. I had to walk home in a summer outfit in a blizzard and it was brutal. It was only about 2 miles but it sucked bad even though I was loaded at the time which I am sure helped to keep me warmer. I learned to pay attention to the weather carefully after that.

I almost forgot that Easter was coming up. Am I the only one that doesn’t really like it and wish that we never really turned it into a celebrated holiday with the kids? (Aside from those that celebrate for religious purposes. It obviously has a completely different meaning than the Easter bunny does). I had to go out and do a quick easter run on Saturday while Tom was home so I don’t have to worry about it last minute. And since there is generally at least one kid with me 24/7 it makes it hard to be a super sneaky present buyer. Next thing you know, it’s going to be time to start buying Christmas presents again :/

Hope you all have a great (and productive) week!
