I think our dishwasher has a slow leak. Actually, I am positive that our dishwasher has a slow leak that has been spreading under the floors in the kitchen.

Today I woke up to a little bit of noticeable water on the kitchen floor coming through the cracks in the wood laminate.

I have been doing the dishes by hand, and haven’t run the dishwasher in over a week so I haven’t noticed.

We saw the floorboards starting to get a warped look in the area in front of the dishwasher but still no noticeable water so we didn’t think too much of it.

In hindsight that was dumb, but in our defence, some of the floorboards were already a bit warped when we moved in seven years ago. I honestly didn’t notice it expanding.

It wasn’t until I was dumb and tried to run the dishwasher last night that I noticed some water on the floor.

I immediately shut it off, drained it, and turned off the water source to the dishwasher under the sink (or at least I think I shut it off).

The water seepage seems to be decreasing now that the water has been shut off, but I know that the pad underneath is quite wet making the area sort of spongey feeling and it needs to dry out.

What I really don’t want in the middle of a pandemic is having workers come in and out trying to repair this thing, but I obviously have no choice.

Thankfully condos are basically a concrete structure with the walls and floors of every unit being a base of concrete for fire protection purposes.

This means that the people downstairs have not had it leak through to their unit…hopefully because who knows how long this has been going on.

I spent the day trying to clean and organize this shit pit so that when they come in to repair it, it won’t be a huge source of embarrassment.

I’m not going to lie, I cried today.

I haven’t cried once during this whole pandemic but a leaky dishwasher finally got me.

I hope that this doesn’t turn into a huge ordeal that involves pulling up all the floors.

I really don’t want to be living in a hotel right now if they have to do some big repairs.

I also signed a petition to ban horse-drawn carriages in New York. Here it is if you are interested.

Stay safe.

  1. Hugs to you. We had a leaky roof scare this week too to top off a week of email working, no power then no internet. Good times! (Ended up not being that serious in the end after the covid-aware roofers came by and fixed it 🙂

    • Thanks Kathy, I appreciate it. It’s definitely not how I wanted to begin the week. I hope it turns to an easy/quick fix for us as well. This place needs a lot of upgrades anyway, so my fingers are crossed that they will wait until after we decide to move before doing anything too extensive. I’m glad your roof was not a serious repair though, because roofs are so expensive to fix. I hope you have a great week ❤️

  2. Arghhhhh, I feel your pain. So much freakin anxiety already and then…dishwasher leak and all that entails. Sucks. A bunch. I’ve lost it over far less during this time.
By the way , thank you for your wonderful site. It’s been a consistent bright spot on many days for me and I really appreciate you. Thanks!

    • Thanks so much Piper. That really means a lot to me. I appreciate you too, and hope that you are well ❤️

  3. I’m sorry to hear of your kitchen floor woes! We’ve only had one person inside our house since March – a quick update to our security system with the company doing all the right protocols – so I understand your concerns. Hope it all goes well for you.

Much appreciate your continuously great and timely content! I get dressed for WFH every weekday – mostly jeans and a shirt + cardigan – but definitely need to add some joggers to my WFH wardrobe.

Tomorrow will mark the first day of intelligence and empathy’s return to the White House. At least I have that to look forward to. 🙂

    • The only person we’ve had in since March is the guy who checks the fire alarms. He was decked out head to toe in PPE so it was very safe.

Joggers are a godsend. I literally never wore joggers until this year and now I realize why people wear them 😂

I’m so happy for you guys. I dreaded checking to news each day to see what else he’s done that made headlines. It must be a huge weight off your shoulders.
