Weekly Secondhand Finds (Vol. XCIX)

A white background with a collection of 16 preloved and vintage finds from the past week.

I experienced my first Poshmark scam this week, and I’m not going to lie, I am pretty pissed off. I knew this buyer was going to be problematic.

After she bought the item, I turned to my daughter and said, “This person is going to be problematic, and I wish I could cancel the sale.”

Poshmark makes cancelling difficult because they give you a percentage of allowable cancellations in a three-month duration, and you need to stay below it or they can suspend or throttle your account.

So I shipped it. She wanted to wear it to a fall wedding that was like two days after she bought it, so I packed it and sent it off asap and she literally received it less than 24 hours after she purchased it.

I think I broke my own record with that one.

So she gets it, the wedding day goes by, and she still hasn’t accepted the order. Then, on the 3rd day, a few hours before my funds would have automatically been released, she opens a case.

The case is for measurements not being accurate and undisclosed discolourations. Then she attached to the complaint two close-up photos of the jacket that make it look like it is lavender and not chocolate brown.

I knew it wasn’t going to go in my favour because Poshmark uses AI now to do these cases, even though I asked for photos in proper lighting because it wasn’t an accurate representation.

Plus, I didn’t include measurements in my listing, so that wasn’t even something she could use against me.

So of course they ignore that and grant it in her favour, and she has to ship it back to me.

Once received, if the jacket is okay and I accept, the refund will be granted. Sometimes people will intentionally damage an item to get a refund, which is why the buyer has to accept.

Anyway, my thought is that she wore it to the wedding and then decided she no longer needed it and found the loophole to get her money back. She still hasn’t shipped it back, so I wonder if she thought they would refund her without having to send it back to me.

If she doesn’t ship it within whatever their grace period is, then the refund gets cancelled, but I am so fucking pissed off, and I wish I had listened to my gut and cancelled it, taking a hit to my stats. \

So the morale of today is don’t be an asshole. If you want to buy, wear, and return, then go to a fucking store (even though I hate that too).

And because I am pissed about that jacket, today has a focus on statement jackets (and other statement pieces).

Starting with purple leather. Because who doesn’t love purple? And this isn’t a bright or rich purple; it has those undertones that make it work as a neutral.

You could have a lot of fun mixing colours with this one.

To celebrate the burgundy velvet smoking jacket that I bought for myself, here is a very, very similar one in blue. I love blue, which is something that I never thought I would say as a recovering blue hater.

And holy shit balls, this is my favourite one of the day. Maybe of all time.

Look at this upcycled blue Chinese long robe-style jacket with the Mongolian collar. It is so Olsen twins, and I wanted to cry when I saw it.

It is beautiful.

This layered shirt is silk and semi-sheer, so very on trend right now. It is Y2K and is one of those not-so-basic, basics.

Since everyone loved the bomber jacket from last week, here is another. This style of vintage jacket with lovely patina is just such a wardrobe staple to me.

It just adds so much personality with zero effort, and you can pair it with anything.

Statement necklaces are back, and while I hated the original bubble necklaces, I really love the almost futuristic vibes of this one even though it is vintage.

Hear me out: a pair of cords that are also in the style of riding pants. And they are Ralph Lauren.

Definite yes to these; they are fantastic.

And to stay on the statement jacket train, we have a velvet one with flowers embroidered by Moschino, and it is so pretty, but so very wearable.

Check out the sleeves on this Ralph Lauren shirt. I believe it is vintage, but it still has its tags.

It would make a great work top tucked into a leather midi pencil skirt.

This Y2K bag really caught my eye because I love simple, minimalist style like this in this shape. It is like a grab-and-go bag.

And others apparently feel the same because it is currently in 3 carts.

I adore snake print, and I adore silver, so when you combine them into an oxford you have officially won me over.

They are fantastic.

Or how about a statement accessory like this huge tiger head ring? I have quite a fixation on animal-shaped jewellery, and this is perfect for me.

This cow print bag is Furla, and quite different from the Furla I usually find. We are all about the statement pieces this week, and this checks the boxes.

As do these Prada boots with studs.

They have a very walkable heel and so much personality. I’d wear the shit out of these boots.

Moschino makes the best statement jackets like this blazer that makes it look like it is marked up for measurements and alterations.

What a unique piece, and so much fun. It is on auction, so you would have to take a chance, but I really wanted to share it since I haven’t seen it before.

And then finally we have this little tapestry stunner with a frog button closure. I really like this one too, but it is too small for me.

That is it for tonight, friends.

Now I am going to stew about the coat some more, and then maybe post some other stuff on Poshmark.
