What a beautiful day today. It was hovering around zero, and I would say that spring was in the air, but it’s only February, so I know better than that.
Yesterday, I posted a capsule in a minimalist fashion using basics. Probably many pieces that people already have, and I talked about how every spring and summer I want to pitch my wardrobe and start from scratch.
Which obviously is dumb and not realistic by any measure, also incredibly wasteful and expensive, and I would never, ever do that.
But one can momentarily wish.
To combat this, instead of buying new clothes, I will often seek out shoes or handbags.
These, to me, will add that new excitement to every single outfit you pair them with, versus a few outfits that an item of clothing will do.
So it makes sense to me to focus on theses instead. Usually secondhand (almost always for handbags), and usually in a fun print or colour.
That being said, I did recently buy these mules, which were in a capsule last week. They arrived today, and they are stunning.
They are going to be a fabulous spring and summer shoe. Remember? I told you it was the season of mules for me.
My go-to for handbags is usually a few local shops like VSP Consignment (current 20% off new collection), but I love to expand my search because that is when you find the best items.
I love Vestiaire because it is worldwide, but it can be expensive with the shipping and extra fees.
Narrowing down your search to your country helps to reduce the costs, but it limits the options.
Ebay is always a great choice, especially with Japanese resellers. The Real Real has been a hit for several items as well, but it has some bigger fees shipping to Canada.
They are currently having a large sale.
If you have tiny feet, these silver kitten heels are a steal. A better price than a thrift store now. Or this cute little Sonia Rykiel bag.
Fashionphile seems to have a more curated collection that has a high turnover. Things seem to sell fast there. Starting tonight (Friday) for Year of the Horse, they are having a discount using the code “HORSE“.
I want an Alexander McQueen Skull Padlock bag, and I love this grey version.
But this Versace has me in a chokehold. The current bag I am contemplating for spring is a vintage Versace.
I am gatekeeping at the moment because it is the only one I can find right now, and I am debating. But I will share it once I decide.
Also, I saw this sweater in the men’s department in Simons today and fell in love.
So many wants, so little money.

I’ve seen the camera at number 9 before and want to get it at some point. I’ve been watching a lot of “analogue living” videos lately, and while I don’t know if I’d go so far as to call digital cameras and MP3 players “analogue”, there is still a warmth to those compared to using a smartphone for everything.
The list of underrated films was…interesting. I wouldn’t call Fantastic Mr. Fox underrated, even though it is very good. But seems pretty universally beloved by both audiences and critics. I’d kinda say the same about Only Lovers Left Alive, although that would have a more niche audience. If we’re talking about underrated Jarmusch films certainly Coffee and Cigarettes would be a better fit? And Monkeybone? Really, Time Magazine? I actually paid real US dollars to see that in the cinema, “underrated” is not a word I would use for that. The list did however remind me that the movie Idlewild exists and now I want to listen to the soundtrack. Idlewild and Sinners seems like it would be a great double feature.
I have the camera and it’s awesome. I need to get better at using it consistently though. I like the thought of a bit more analogue life. There’s just way too much going on at any given time and it’s negatively affecting me.
There were some films in the list that I haven’t seen and others I scratched my head about. But I agree on the Fantastic Mr. Fox take. The only thing I can think of is that maybe it’s because it’s not a notable as a lot of other Wes Anderson films? That’s the only explanation I can think of.
