Weekly Secondhand Finds XLIV

a collage of different types of women's clothing and accessories. All vintage or secondhand.

I spent the afternoon going down a fashion history rabbit hole while trying to dissociate from the news today.

It is a way that I like spending my time if I need to mentally escape, and I find it can get me inspired as well.

Which leads me to the question: Are you a collector of fashion and fashion history books?

I am, and a gigantic history of fashion book was literally the first thing that I bought with the first paycheck of my first job. I still have it.

My collection has grown slowly, and over the years, I’ve bought them as I’ve come across them in bookstores, used bookstores, and thrift stores.

Some are in other languages.

One that has been on my list is the Creative Pragmatist by Amy Smilovic, which you might remember me mentioning a few times.

And today I just saw that Fashionphile has put out The Book of Iconic Bags, which I have now added to the list, too.

Should I add, “want a library” to the list as well?

Anyway, onward to secondhand fashion.

I feel like I have a good mixture this week. I am still fixated on leather and jackets, even though the weather isn’t really cooperating for me at the moment.

But first, check out this cowhide circle bag. The back is solid brown leather. It is not a huge bag, and it is kind of perfect.

Then there is a Y2K cropped apple green leather jacket with 3/4 length sleeves. I love the colour, and the a-line, swingy cut.

I almost bought this metallic snake print bag for myself, but I resisted in order to share with you guys since it is so fabulous.

Staying with the metallic theme this striped blazer has a metallic bronze colour and I love it. I also really adore large patch pockets.

Marni is one of those brands that I find I always love. It has that perfect amount of quirkiness to its designs, like these boots.

Check out the heel shape.

One of these posts would not be complete without sharing something in my favourite green. This sweater is Yves Saint Laurent, but it has very strong Gucci vibes to me.

Often with vintage and secondhand pieces, there are flaws or damage to the piece, so it is always important to take note of that and determine whether it is something that you are okay with or are willing to spend time fixing.

Like this vintage St. John knit zip up with patterned cuffs.

There are two small holes in this knit, but for me this isn’t bothersome because the knit is black and repairing those holes will be barely noticeable when it is completed.

I love the pop of colour off the cuffs.

Oh look, another green blazer. It is wool, and the lining of this one is so sumptuous. I really, really love this piece and it might be my favourite of the night.

This leather jacket would have been in my cart so fast if it weren’t too small. That’s all I really need to say about that.

And yes, Aretha too.

What a great sweatshirt. I love vintage graphic tees and sweatshirts, usually gravitating to funny or quirky, but this one is just plain special.

Yes, my friends, it is vintage animal print jacket season. I am pretty sure that I have included this one in a capsule last year and I can’t believe it is still available.

This is a great example of the perfect winter jacket.

As you have noticed, I have a minor fixation on vintage perfume bottle necklaces, and this one is no exception.

Sometimes you will also see them called “poison lockets”, which is even better in my opinion.

Calf hair bags (and shoes) are another fixation of mine, so when I saw this red tote I knew I had to share it.

Just look at how stunning that bag is.

This vintage leather bomber is like a washed-out and faded blue/blue grey, and I think this might be the next colour that I need one in.

I have black, and brown, but a washed-out blue is so good.

And lastly, I have some footwear.

How striking are these black and white boots? They would make such a statement.

And these slant heel shoes have such a 1930s feel to them. They would be amazing paired with a romantic style wardrobe. One that leans into retro and vintage pieces.

And the slanted heel is also so modern, making these a perfect blend of old and new.

That is it for the week.

I hope that you found some inspiration in this post, or at least a little escapism from the awfulness.
