Today I have a Cologne, Germany packing list. It is a seasonal packing list and I am focusing on an early fall capsule versus a late fall to early winter capsule with my selections. Although you could transition this fall packing list to winter by swapping some pieces out for more weather appropriate clothing like a heavier jacket, a beanie and gloves.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to get this post out tonight. It was my birthday yesterday so for the past few days I have been slacking. I didn’t even have a destination selected yet.

I went through my emails to find a destination that has been requested over this summer, so technically it is Cologne, although her trip encompasses a few other cities/countries.

This packing list is completely adaptable with a few modifications depending on the predicted weather for each destination.

Cologne is a 2,000 year old city that has a rich history. Spanning the Rhine River, it is a city that is vibrant, alive, full of culture, and is the 4th largest city in Germany.

When deciding on any travel capsule it’s best to choose a wardrobe colour palette. This will help you to ensure all of your pieces will mix and match easily giving you the most out of your packing list.

The colour palette I chose are blues, and browns, mixed with other neutrals which are good fall wardrobe colours. Next step is to choose pieces that can make a variety of different looks when paired with each other. I wanted to maintain a casual yet cool vibe, with a touch of chic, but not end up look like a tourist. The goal is to blend in with the locals.

When you are packing light a quick and easy way to brighten up any outfit is to add a scarf. They are lightweight, and easy to pack. They also come in so many prints and colours that you could wear the same outfit for a week with different scarves and it will look like a completely different outfit each day.

Because Cologne is such an historic city, there will be cobblestone streets. It is unavoidable, so keep this in mind when you are trying to decide what shoes to pack for a vacation. I would suggest flat shoes of varying styles, with at least one pair being suitable to walk all day when building your Cologne packing list.

Depending on what the weather says, (because you should be watching the weather channel up until the day you leave for your germany vacation). You may need to pack for wetter weather. A waterproof jacket, umbrella, or waterproof shoes/boots may need to find a way in to your suitcase. The boots I included in this packing list are actually waterproof. Cute and functional.

You can pare down your travel wardrobe easily if this is the case, and still manage to pack light in a carry-on. Just swap out a jacket for a waterproof one, switch a pair of shoes for something waterproof or water repellent, and a travel umbrella can easily fit in any carry-on suitcase.
