Many years ago I lived in a Canadian city called Victoria, British Columbia. It is right by Vancouver which you probably are familiar with since it’s one of the most popular Canadian cities. My grandmother lived in Vancouver and we went to visit her there often. It’s actually the city that I would prefer to live in, in Canada if given the choice. It would also be an excellent location for Tom to work since they film so many tv shows and movies there, but it is also the most expensive city which is a huge deterrent.

I loved it there though, the climate is my prefered climate of quite temperate all year-long, with lots of rain and low to no snow. If it snows it doesn’t stick so you never have to deal with that gross mess of slush that you have to in every other place across the country. But because of the rain you get that cold dampness that you can feel straight in your bones. Don’t get me wrong, it gets bitterly cold where I live but with the right clothes you can deal with it well, and once you are some place warm the effects wear off quickly. Damp cold is different and it’s harder to shake off, so lots of sweaters and knits are important.

Since there is so much rain, it can be a while before you see something other than grey skies. For many the grey skies can be depressing, so I went with a brighter colour palette this week. Something that may help you feel like the bright spot in the middle of a grey day.

I was in the middle of making this packing list when I received an email from someone who is moving to Seattle this winter. She was wondering if I’d put something together to help her get in the proper mindset for her new Seattle wardrobe. I figured that this post could then work twofold because you can easily get an entire winters worth of outfits from these pieces with the addition of a rain slicker, and/or umbrella, and it also works as a quick packing list for a trip down there.

I hope you have a smooth move to your new city, and that this gives you some ideas of things you might like to wear there.
