Nothing motivates you to clean quite like your husband saying at noon while you are still in your pyjamas, that people might be coming over that night. I also think he would have neglected to tell me at all if I hadn’t mentioned that I had a dream that night that he had a party, and someone stole my shoes*, so Kurt Cobain helped me try to find out who stole them. Tom was like, “oh yeah, that reminds me. Some people may be coming over tonight.” Needless to say I began to rush round and multitask at that point. I had plans on colouring my hair this day so while it was in, I cleaned the bathroom. Then I folded the massive pile of laundry that I have ignored for weeks while Roo cleaned out her closets so we could actually get in a put the clothes away. Tom made a run to Value Village to bring down our donations of two large, clear garbage bags full of clothes and shoes, one rubbermaid container filled with games and puzzles, and the old easel. At least that clears out the front doorway (minus the old coffee table that needs to vamoose).
I still have some more closet purging to do but that is enough for the day. After I go through everything in there I plan to update the “What I am Currently Wearing” post because things have changed a bit in the last few months. I’ve had to replace a few worn things, some wardrobe holes have been filled (hello boyfriend jeans), and some new ones are discovered (I am looking for a trench coat). I still have all my trusty favourites though like my Moto jacket, Fryes, band tees (I get them from here, and here, and thrift stores), and sneakers. I have meant to do an update forever and keep forgetting. You need to remind me to do these things 😉
*This totally happened to me before and apparently angered me enough that I am still dreaming about it 15 years later 😉 Way back in college when I lived with roommates, the weekend I went home to have my wisdom teeth removed my roommates had a get together. It wasn’t even a party according to my then best friend whom I also lived with. When I came back that Monday my brand new pair of shoes that I hadn’t even worn once were gone. My friend thinks she knows who took them but there was no way to prove it. I was pissed. And I am a total grudge holder so I am still pissed.
Do you have anything you are still angry about that happened years ago?

Spring is Here with the Daniel Wellington Classic Petite
Spring is here, but you wouldn’t have guessed it by the snow that was blowing outside my window last night. Spring to me is a time when I go through my house and wardrobe looking for ways to freshen and brighten it after the long winter. This means some new, bright pillows, some colour and patterns added into my relatively neutral wardrobe, breaking out any shoes that don’t need socks, a few colourful scarves, and a new accessory or two. While I don’t usually wear a lot of accessories, I love to wear a watch and you will 9 times out of 10 see me wearing on any day of the week.
In the middle of March Daniel Wellington released their Classic Petite watch in four colour combinations: The Melrose which has a rose gold mesh strap and comes with a black or white face, and The Sterling which has a silver mesh strap with either a black or white face. Both are lovely and timeless, and easily transition from day to night wear.
I am wearing the Classic Petite Melrose in rose gold/black. I love this colour because it adds a subtle blush, warm, spring tone which softens up the black and grey clothes that I tend to gravitate towards. I also love that it is so easy to adjust. I have small wrists and often I have to get and extra hole punched in to my leather straps, but with this mesh one it easily slides up and down to fit for your comfort and fit preferences. I’m really happy to be able to freshen up my wardrobe for spring with this beauty.
Until April 30th you can get 15% off your Daniel Wellington purchase at danielwellington.com with the code LIVELOVESARA15.
This post is sponsored by Daniel Wellington who carry pieces that I own, love, and wear regularly. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you so much for supporting the sponsors that make my little blog and life here a little better.

Every time I open the microwave I cringe and think “man, I need to clean this” then I promptly forget when I remove whatever I am heating up. Every.Single.Time. I should probably stop what I am doing right away and just get it done but whatever I’m doing seems to trump the need of scrubbing it down. I wonder if anyone else here feels the same when they see it and contemplate cleaning it themselves. I can see it now, they open it, see the grossness and think “wow this is messy. I wonder when Sara/Mom is going to clean it.” A totally pointless story but I just removed my tea from the microwave and did it again so I thought I would share my struggle 😉
Refocusing on this post, these are the outfit options that go with the What to Pack for Dubai in spring post. Bringing hot weather clothes while remaining respectful of cultural dress codes can be tough. If you check out the original post it gives the complete packing list and the reasoning behind my choices. You should assume that any outfit you see that includes the tank top means that you will wear either the cardigan, blazer, kimono, or blouse (left open) over the top to keep your shoulders covered. The scarves will work to protect you from the sun, heat, wind, sand, and as a head covering. Multi-purpose is an important part of keeping it light.
As noted in the original post it is a good idea to research or call ahead to any locations or sites you might visit to ask if there is a dress code beforehand.

As I am writing this it is Saturday night and it’s about as quiet as it has been for the last week. Tom is at a music gig, Merle is building Lego while watching Youtube tutorials and Roo is trying to get her room clean (I know, I know, it has been a ridiculously long time she has worked on it but I refuse to cave and do it for her this time) in order for her to earn back her tv cord so she can play video games. She also always bitches that the cat doesn’t sleep with her and I told her that if she didn’t have so much shit all over the place he probably would. Tonight I proved my point after she stripped the bed and tidied it all up he was sleeping happily at the foot of it. Maybe this will be enough to motivate her.
It’s so horrendously disorganized in here as well, so much so that I want to start buying decorating magazines again to find some inspiration. Maybe just some small-space pins on Pinterest will work too though. That’s what I used to do when I was a kid. I used my allowance to buy decorating magazines and would find an inspiration and try to mimic it in my bedroom. I feel like I am constantly complaining about organizing and too much crap, but seriously the floor plan of this place is so wacky that you can’t do much. We need an organizational unit that will incorporate the tv, gaming systems, and have maximum area to display collection and miscellaneous crap that seems to have no home. Every tv wall unit that I see is too big for the space or won’t work because of the limited areas we have to put it because our only long, straight, continuous wall is windows with about a foot of wall in between each one. I am starting to think one of my best options is to get two Ikea Kallax shelves, and run one lengthwise and stack the other on top so it’s shaped like and L. I would use the top portion of the lengthwise shelf to put the tv on and all the rest would be super awesome storage spots. The only fail I can think with this idea is that when the one is stacked on top it may be too tall because the ceiling hangs low on that wall in front to of the window because of the heating duct. Bah. This is getting ridiculous. Remind me not to get a corner unit again. It might work to run the 8 shelf lengthwise and then put a tall 4 shelf on the end but it might jut out in to the front of the window. I would have to do some serious measuring. The Brimnes might work though so I’ll have to remember that one because I’ve never seen it before.
I promised Merle though that I would get her one of those Kallax shelves in yellow and get rid of the dresser that isn’t being used as a dresser. I’m going to try to attempt to finally get one this week if Tom has a later start to the day one day (we are a one vehicle household and he takes it to work). Can you think of any inexpensive wall unit that I can configure to fit into really small and awkward areas?
I am also trying to master the art of folding a fitted sheet tonight and failing miserably. Every time I see one of the videos making it’s rounds, they make it look so easy that I try again but it never seems to work for me. I will admit that they do look neater than usual even if they aren’t done quite like he showed me (I love Clinton Kelly) 🙂
