I mentioned a few packing light posts back that my number one requested city for packing list ideas is Paris, but there is another one that gets mentioned a lot.

New York City is one of the top requested places as well and is also a city that I have been too a few times because it is relatively close.

By close I mean about 8 hours drive from here which isn’t close in reality since you can jump on a plane in any European city and get there in about the same amount of time 😉

We tend to get the same weather patterns here as NYC so it’s easy to predict what the weather will be like as well…..and unfortunately they seem to be suffering from the same heatwave we are at the moment.

So note this: I would NOT pack all these items in my New York travel capsule if I was going there this week because I would die of the heat.

I would substitute pieces and swap out maybe for another dress and skirt instead of pants. Shorts would work too if you are a short wearer.

These selections are to give a general idea of what I would take when the summer heat wasn’t in overtime. This weeks request is for what to pack for 10 days in New York City.

Light jackets are hard in summer, but the easy choice is a denim jacket. I prefer the look of an oversized jacket vs the cropped or fitted versions. They add a bit of “masculinity” to a feminine outfit.

Kind of like you are borrowing the jacket of your boyfriend/husband/male friend. Roll up the cuffs, add some bracelets, a watch (or both), some red lipstick, and you look effortlessly cool.

Handbags are also a hard choice, so a good option is to pack a cute backpack instead of a second handbag, and I love this one from Everlane.

I also have a thing for jumpsuits this season because they are so easy, yet versatile. If you like the yellow one I included then you may also like this yellow one from Target that is slightly less expensive.

Another versatile piece for a travel wardrobe in summer is a slip dress because they can quickly go from casual to dressy with only a few changes.

If you are bringing a dressy option then make sure you do a trial run before you leave so that you have everything you need to dress up the look.

While New York style is known to be top-notch as one of the major fashion cities of the world, it is also a very casual city and you will generally fit in no matter what you wear.

Just make sure that you are comfortable and feel good and you’ll have no worries.
