Today’s what to pack for Cork, Ireland packing list post is sort of two-fold. Firstly I received a request in my inbox for a 14 days in Cork, Ireland in August for a casual vacation.

Second, I have done a lot of research on the line of my family that comes from in and around that area which is making me really want to do a “visit your historic roots” type of vacation.

I only have a handful of places that I have been able to trace my various lineages to, but those that I have found seems to be where they lived for many, many generations until they emigrated to Canada so the roots seem deep. I’d really like to see where I came from in person.

I added a bit of fun, bright colour patterns to today’s capsule wardrobe because the houses in the County Cork area are quite colourful. They make me happy, so I used them for inspiration. I also included several pieces from the company ABLE. We all know I like a company with a cause and;

“Able is a lifestyle brand focused on ending generational poverty by working with women who have often overcome extraordinary circumstances. We manufacture directly in the communities we wish to impact, both locally and globally, creating jobs and ending the cycle of charity dependency.Through your purchase, you are ABLE to empower women and give them a job with dignity.”

You can see their about and mission here. They have some truly amazing things and their leather handbags are gorgeous.

August weather in Ireland is a lovely temperature, but a jacket is an important piece to bring. As well as bring a couple of sweaters, cardigans (or any combination of the two). Shorts won’t be necessary but a pair of cropped pants and or jeans will be perfect, along with some comfortable travel shoes.

Cork has a population of around 200,000 which sounds like a perfect size. While I love living in a large city sometimes the millions of people all around can be overwhelming.

A few hundred thousand sounds about perfect. What’s your ideal city size?

When I was in school for Museum Studies one of my favourite classes was Restoration. Each of us was given an object that was eroded due to people handling them (the items weren’t of any historical importance. Mostly old metal objects like horseshoes and such).

Up until that moment I had no idea that fingerprints can actually corrode metal from the acids, moisture and oils in the skin (and the damage varies between people).

Our task for that week was to restore the objects back as well as we could and while it took a million hours it was also extremely satisfying.

So after that little story that sounds like it didn’t have a point I was wondering, can you still kiss the Blarney Stone, or is it closed now? I remember reading somewhere that it was closed down due to the erosion of too many people kissing/touching it.
