SHOP THE POST

I’m fairly certain that my weekend ritual now consists of getting up before everyone on Sunday morning to watch the early uploaded episode of Outlander first thing in the morning in peace.

Nice and quiet with a cup of tea or three before anyone else wakes. I don’t get a lot of me-time, but I guess that can count right?

There was a big sale at Long & McQuade’s this weekend and we were going to pick up the girls’ a keyboard for Christmas because they both want to learn. It wasn’t until Saturday night that I realized we missed the sale, it was Friday and Saturday 🙁

I’d still like to get them one so I’ll just have to be extra vigilant in paying attention to sales. I know it’s only the end of September but Christmas seems like it is sneaking up so damn quickly don’t you think?

I put up a blog post on Saturday which I don’t normally do but I had a fall jacket round-up that I wanted to get up even though we are going through a heat wave (it was seriously 40°C with the humidex this weekend).

I got a few comments about how they were winter jackets, and maybe even too warm for winter where they lived.

I’ll be lucky to even make it through to Christmas being able to wear one without freezing my ass off so I envy you guys.

I do like a coldish winter but extreme cold is not a fun party. I’d be content with 0-5°C as the average winter temperature.

I mentioned in that post that I’m probably going to give Roo the Sorels I bought at Value Village last winter because she has asked me if she could have them several times.

I then plan on finding another decent winter boot for me since this winter is predicted to be cold and very snowy.

This city is excellent for keeping the roads and sidewalks plowed but when it’s in the middle of a storm or has snowed so much that it’s literally piled 4 ft high along the side of both the road and sidewalk it’s nice to have a good weatherproof/winter boot.

I’m thinking that I like these, but I’m also leaning towards this style. What say you? I probably should start saving now though otherwise I’ll end up with none 😉

This weekend I got into Mr. Selfridge on Netflix. So good.

  1. Hi there Ms. Sara,

I have my fingers crossed that you’ll be able to find that keyboard at the right price. It will be a fantastic Christmas gift. How is homeschool going? Are the girls as excited about the topics and materials you found as you were?

For what it’s worth, I really like the second pair of Sorels. I like the height of the cuffs in particular.

Meanwhile, it feels like even fall weather is far away, let alone winter. It’s still in the 90s here. About the time I think I will be able to wear some cool lightweight jackets and coats, we bust right into puffy coat time.

Sorry it’s been a while, amazing how life can creep up and slap you up a bit.

    Cheers,

    Ardith

    • Hi Ardith!

Life is notorious for escaping you and then giving a good slap. I swear it gets worse every year.
We are in the middle of a heat wave right now. I’m too lazy to convert but the last few days have hit 40°C which is hotter than any other day we have had this summer. Super dry too so the trees aren’t changing for fall the leaves are just dying 🙁
I am so terrible at picking styles of things. I always end up wanting the one I didn’t get and if got that one I’d want the other. It’s ridiculous so I’m trying to plan way ahead. I’ll probably end up with no boots because I was too indecisive and summer stuff will be back on the shelves 😉
It’s nice to see you again. I hope you and the mr. Are doing okay. Has he recovered fully yet?

  2. Hi Sara,

We’ve been the lucky recipients of rain the past couple of days, after about a month without. It’s so refreshing, and today is a fall-like overcast day. It’s very pretty.

As for the mister (and thank you for asking), he’s had a pretty tough year. His heart surgery has been bookended by two severe leg gout attacks (he blames the gout on his Portuguese mom’s cooking, i.e. things like lots of pork and fish head soup). This means he has been in significant pain and immobility of some sort from late February to ask we speak. He so deserves a long break from this.

Meanwhile, I find some zen with cooking and baking. Being able to bake fresh yeast bread simply amazes me. I’m also pretty content with my wardrobe, though I have my eye on a pair of cranberry velvet ankle boots at TJMaxx. I’d also like a pair of charcoal skinny, ankle length jeans with distressed edging. Fingers crossed.

I hope all of you are doing really well and will get to enjoy some fall weather soon. I also send you good vibes for deciding on a pair of new Sorels. I know you can do it.

    Cheers,

    Ardith

  3. Oh boy. My dad suffered from gout after having lung surgery years ago (cancer but slow growing and caught it quickly) and it was awful. I agree, your husband completely deserves a long break from this, as do you. Both of you have had a horrendously stressful year.

I’m glad your able to find some peace in cooking though, and I would love to have fresh bread here all the time but cooking stresses me out 😉 I’ve been trying to slowly integrate more healthy choices into our lives because I’m seeing a direct correlation between not just health but behaviour when we eat like crap (not shocking). It’s a hard changeover process so I am trying to be slow and sneaky.

Fall hit finally although it’s supposed to heat up again mid next week so I am enjoying it while I can. I made the realization a couple of weeks ago that I live in my distressed jeans and those aren’t the wisest winter pant. I’m going to have to try and find something to fill the void of my favourites when the weather gets colder. I do love a charcoal jean though. We don’t have TJMaxx but I think it is associated with Winners here. Maybe that’s the Canadian version. Anyway, it’s where I found my Frye boots for a fraction of the cost and we have one about 1/2 mile down the road so I may skip over there today. Thanks for the inspiration.

    Have a great weekend!

    Sara
