The packing light general rule is that if you are going on a trip that is longer than three weeks you can get away with only bring a weeks worth of clothing if you can do laundry once a week. I don’t know if I could totally pull that off since I am more of a “just in case” girl. Just in case you don’t have access to a washing machine, just in case the weather changes, just in case you get bored with what you brought and feel tempted to buy more. So I tend to include a little extra in my lists you know, just in case. It is quite easy to streamline and omit things if you feel that they are too much.
If you are travelling to Italy in October and plan on visiting north to south for 30 days you are going to meet with a variety of weather along the way. I based this list on the back to school wardrobe capsule that I put together last week. The woman who requested the list is also planning on a one month Italian trip in October so I decided that it made sense to use the same pieces so she could see how they could be worn.
I plan on putting together outfit options for this list in the next post. I tried to include a variety of sizes in these pieces to cover all body types.
I don’t think bringing two coats is necessary but when you are planning a variety if casual and dressy outings than it is nice to have a dressier coat option for evenings out when the temperature gets cooler. To lighten your suitcase the universal suggestion is to wear your heaviest pieces on the flight in layers.
Leggings are also a good option to have for layering under tunics and dresses as well as, worn to bed or for exercising. Items that serve several purposes will give you more versatility in your wardrobe. I kept the accessories in this list to a minimum and only included sunglasses and two lighter scarves in different colours and patterns.
No single packing list will work for every destination but you can gain inspiration and ideas from each one to help guide you to find your own formula that will work for you.
