I have mentioned many times that I am not someone who can afford to spend thousands or even hundreds on the perfect forever bag. I just can’t wrap my head around spending that much on something when that money can be used to travel or put to better uses instead. So while I would love to some day have the finances to buy my forever dream bag, in the interim I will have to settle for “does the job” bag.

I have had a black, faux leather, medium-sized, satchel handbag that I bought at H&M about 5 years ago for $50. I still looks good today even though I have used it daily for the last 5 years. I generally only have 1-2 purses and 1-2 clutches at any given time. If I had more I would not have any place to store them. I keep my jeans in a basket on my bedroom floor because there is just no room, so there definitely would not be room for rows of handbags. I find sticking to one or two also helps me to maintain a smaller wardrobe, and it helps me be mindful with the one that I buy. No impulse purse buying for me because I will be using it everyday for years.

The lining of my current back started to rip a while back and I have noticed more and more items going missing into the depths of no return recently. It’s not that easy to get things out once they have slipped through the lining so I started looking for a replacement. When I was shopping online at Urban Outfitters a couple of weeks ago I came across the Silence + Noise Zip-Front Moto Shoulder Bag and did a double take. Although I had been adamant that I wanted a leather bag this time around this one appealed to me. Also the 17-year-old vegetarian in me voted for a faux leather bag so after reading the reviews which were all pretty high I went for it. I was hoping that my local Urban Outfitters would have had it so I could save on shipping and take a look at it first but it was an online exclusive only. It comes in both black, and brown and it was a hard decision to make, but since this will be my only bag I opted for the black for its ability to match anything. It is a fairly large bag (which I love), has two handles plus a shoulder/crossbody strap. There are decorative zippers and tassels on the front and several pockets inside. It looks like real leather and is very buttery soft, it’s constructed well and I am really hoping that it holds up well too. Both colours are on sale right now (the brown is a lot more discounted than the black). My only complaint is that the detachable shoulder strap is kind of flimsy, but that would actually be easy to replace if I have issues with it since I could easily find a black purse at a thrift store with a detachable strap and use that. All in all I am pleased with the purchase.

Have you found your staple purse yet, or are still on you “does the job” bag too?
