In my last post I showed an example packing light list of what you could bring when vacationing in Florence, Italy. In this post titled What to Wear in Florence, Italy I am going to show you how to turn those pieces into outfits. I used to post 10 example outfits that could be carried from day to night with a few switches of accessories and shoes. But recently I started showing you 10 days worth of outfits (above) plus an extra 6-8 more (at the bottom). I figure if I am going to give you an example of what you can bring on vacation, then I could at least should show you how many outfit options you can have with the pieces. This demonstrates how versatile the packing lists are even when you pack lightly.

I have stuck with the 10 day list for a while now because I find that when most people go on vacation it is usually for 7-10 days. This way if you are going for longer you can add a piece or two (or not because they lists will work for more than 10 days) or if you are going for less you can drop some items. My formula for a 10 day packing list (not for summer or tropical climates) is to pack around half the amount of shirts as days (so for 10 days you would pack 4-5 shirts), a sweater/cardigan or two for layering, 2-3 bottoms, a dress (or two if you are a dress person), a coat, 2-3 pairs of shoes, and accessories. Always make sure a shirt or two is dressy or can be dressed up, have one dressier bottom (black pants usually work easily) and the dress should transition easily from casual outings to an upscale dinner. For summer or tropical travel I have a slightly different formula, but the general idea is very similar. The coat and heavier items from your list are the clothes you wear on the plane. That way you cut down what you need to pack in your carry-on. All this makes the most out of your travel wardrobe.

Is there anything you think I should include in these lists?
