Fun Stuff from The Week Like Loot Crate

It feels like Friday but it is only Thursday night. The week is dragging. The weather has been around the mid teens which is my ideal temperature. Perfect for jeans and a light sweater to go out in without worrying that you are going to die from heat prostration. Merle doesn’t do well with heat or humidity. Her face turns pink within minutes and she sweats profusely and starts to complain, so if the temps could stay at this level all summer I would be grateful. I hate when the heat and humidity is so high that they warn you not to go out unless you really have to, so we are enjoying the calm before the storm. Which in this case refers to the bloody high humidity in the summer. I have the balcony doors open, the central air is off and I can feel a cooler temperature drop in preparation to the rain that is coming tonight and tomorrow. I love rain. I love thunderstorms more but it seems we haven’t had a good one in a long while. I think we are due.

The week isn’t quite over yet but we had some fun stuff that arrived in the mail already.

Brittany and Alvin Chipmunk

1.  In a previous post I mentioned Merle’s love for Alvin and the Chipmunks, so first and foremost Brittany Chipmunk arrived yesterday. I have been quietly checking the tracking information online since it shipped and finally got the “Out For Delivery” notification yesterday. I don’t understand the mail system. The Ebay seller I bought her from lives in Illinois* which is just southwest from here and it seemed to me the best route would have been straight through Michigan into Canada and then BAM hit Toronto. Nope this package went ass backwards and ended up in Kentucky at one point. It doesn’t seem very economically feasible to mail a package all over the country instead of going from A to B. Especially if A to B is only a 10 hour drive from here even though it is a different country. Anyway, it arrived well jammed into a box so it kind of sprung out like a jack-in-the-box when I cut the tape open. That excited her to no end.

**I love geography so I am very familiar with U.S. geography, (worldwide geography actually) because I study and test myself regularly on it. I use various online resources like Sheppard Software (which is for kids but does the job well). My favourite resource is Geoguessr which is like a game. Basically it just drops you in the middle of the world somewhere and you travel around using Google Street View looking to see if you can figure out where you are. It’s addictive.

2. On Tuesday the girl’s first LootCrate arrived. Loot Crate is a monthly Geek and Gamer Subscription Box. We had been contemplating getting it for them but Tom decided to give it a go. We didn’t get many good pictures of it because the girl’s tore in to it right away but this box included a Power Rangers t-shirt (Tom’s size so he took it), a 300 piece puzzle that Merle claimed, Marvel shoelaces, 6 pins that Roo stuck on her Doctor Who backpack, Mad Magazine, and a comic. I’m not sure if there was anything else because they claimed things and scattered pretty quick. I will be sure to document better next time. That is Tom’s hand in the picture not mine if you were thinking I had Man Hands 😉  (And just for laughs here is the Man Hands Seinfeld clip one of the best shows ever.)

3. Let me introduce you to our newest family member. Tom is working in another city this week and beside where they are filming is a vintage toy shop. You can’t, not go in to a vintage toy shop when given the opportunity and since he is obsessed with the television show Toy Hunter there was no way he wasn’t going in there. He picked this guy up for $20. Welcome to the family PeeWee.
