Both kids now are down with the plague. It’s actually just a cold but by the way they are acting and how fast they spread it you would think it’s the plague. Ever since Roo was a baby, every single time she gets sick she always throws up on day 1. Regardless if it’s even just a head cold….always. I have to wait until day two to determine whether she has a cold or stomach flu every time. It’s so weird.

Have you been following the #WhyIDidntReport hashtag on Twitter. It is both heartbreaking and infuriating. As I was reading through them over the course of about 20 minutes I went back to the top of the page and saw there were 1,791 new results. That is just a drop in the bucket. We need to do better. Much better. I can’t even believe the fuckery of this past week. I thought we had turned a corner with #metoo but apparently we just circled back around. It is a terrifying thing being a woman.

In my last post I talked about how more than half my DNA is listed as being from the UK according to the Ancestry test that I did. Coincidentally that night I checked the Ancestry site and saw that I finally got the update (they had released it slowly to customers but it’s now available to all). Anyway I went from mostly British, to now mostly Irish/Scottish, with England coming in second. So I guess you can say my ancestors hung out in the British Isles for a long time. I have a 16% part Eastern Europe and Russia that comes from my dad’s unknown paternal father’s side (dad is almost 50% Eastern European). It’s really cool to see how they are able to narrow down the areas as more and more people test.

And speaking of my last post, it did a weird thing when I hit the post button. It froze mid-load and ended up not sending out an email to subscribers to notify them of the new post. If you missed it, here it is.

I hate saying TGIF so without sounding too cliche I am very happy that it is Friday. This week has been a hard adjustment from summer to homeschooling full-time again. Especially with Roo doing highschool workload. I think I am going spend the weekend (or part of it at least) trying to organize next week a little better so it goes a little smoother. I also need to clean off my desk and work area so she can set the laptop up near my computer when we are working together. It’s kind of hard to get things done when you are trying to work over the top of play doh creations and crafting supplies (ahem Merle). Did anyone else have a rough start this week?

I swear I am having a complete fail with Zara at the moment. I still have yet to spend all the gift cards that I got for my birthday because I keep ordering stuff and having to return it. I think they cringe when I walk in now. Although I am pretty excited that animal print is so big again this year because it means I get to bust out my animal print jacket soon. And speaking of that jacket, they have one that is very similar at Zara that I included in my round-up above. Are you still loving animal print?

Tomorrow is Fan Expo which is like Comicon but actually bigger, and me being the procrastinator that I am only finished Merle’s skirt today for her costume. I also still have to repair Roo’s Hogwarts school sweater and shorten Merle’s purse strap tonight before bed.

To go along with my procrastination I have to put together the girls school stuff this weekend for our back to school start on Tuesday. The first week back is probably going to be pretty lax anyway, since I am still waiting for a couple of school books to arrive, and Roo has to get a cavity filled on Wednesday.

I’ll post a picture of Merle in her finished costume on my Instagram in the morning. She always loves this weekend because she gets to do a trial run on this year’s Halloween costume.

There are lots of sales going on over the next few days and everything I linked comes from a retailer that is having a sale or has a coupon code (except number 22 which is from Zara and we all know they rarely have sales).

One more week of summer and I finally figured out what we are doing for school this year…..kind of. I need to find some science, and history resources for Merle, and decide if this year is world history or Canadian history for Roo. She’s starting high school which is so insane. I can’t even wrap my head around that fact and it’s a little over a week away.

I ordered some nice things from Zara this week using my gift cards. Number 5 up on the collage was one of the sweaters I got. Although  I had to head back in the store today and exchange to for a larger size, because it is quite short-waisted and the next size up fits better in length. I also got these jeans which are fabulous and my new favourites. They fit tight so maybe a size up there too.

It’s supposed to rain all weekend which I am looking forward to because it gives me an excuse to stay in and work through my “holy shit summer is almost over” list. First thing on my list is to finish the skirt for Merle’s costume to wear to Comicon next weekend. She gets to try out her Halloween costume which is always super fun for her.
