Weekly Reads and Finds

Have you ever played or do you have the Nintendo Switch? My girls have talked about if for a while but last night at the mall they had a huge demo going on to showcase the new Mario game; Super Mario Odyssey (I love Mario games), so they got to try it out and loved it. It was so much fun, except the part where Merle was getting her picture taken in front of a Mario graphic and they offered her the communal Mario hat for the picture. She took it before I could hiss the word lice :|

Tom’s birthday is tomorrow and I had no idea to what to get him. My original idea fell through so I one with the trusty old Kiss stuff. He is a collector and while he once had a huge collection (and by huge I mean we actually had a large jewellery store glass display case in our living room) he sold most of it over the years when we were super broke. I think he would like to build up his collection again although I put my foot down to the huge display case ;) I went with an Esty made T-shirt that has the Gene Simmons style from his favourite era, as well as several records. Now on to Roo’s birthday which is Friday. She was kind of hoping that the new Fantastic Beasts movie would be out this year, but it’s set for next year at this time, so I’m not too sure what she will want to do. Gifts are bought though and she wants me to reproduce the cake that Hagrid made Harry in The Philosopher’s Stone. It’s so awkwardly perfect that I hope I can do it.

Weekly Reads (and maybe videos):

  • If you like Cards Against Humanity you will really love this. They have totally upped their game and bought land blocking his border wall. So awesome and I am loving that they have raised so much money for this.
  • Remember That One Time “Friends” Replaced Rachel With A Random Person And No One Noticed? Nope, but I’m going to have to rewatch to see if I can catch it. Like I need and excuse to watch Friends again anyway ;)
  • My kids want this. I just laughed and thought about how he would probably try to rip their faces off if they attempted. He’d let me but that’s about it.
  • Some crafting for you. Next year’s Halloween costume? Not bloody likely but he’s really good at it. You should see his other videos.  How about one of those huge knit merino wool blankets we see everywhere? This is pretty awesome.
  • I’m not going to lie, I really want to subscribe to this. Not just for me but the kids too, because it looks like it would be so much fun. There are so many subscription boxes out there but this one comes with a mystery to solve which is right up my alley.

Weekly Finds:

  • Are you ready to up your holiday party game this year? Aside from an ugly Christmas sweater party because I’ve got the whole family covered with the sweater selections above. H&M has a Black Friday seek peek which is offering daily sales. Today is 30% off pants (taken off at checkout). There are so many good pants, and you could easily pick up one key item and work it to wear in different ways throughout the holidays like these tuxedo style pants or leather pants. You could easily pair them with just a plain t-shirt (this one is $4.99) and a blazer, or a sweater, or even just stripes with some jewellery and heeled boots. Side note: my leather leggings I always wear are included in this sale so they would be 30% off $24.99 (you need to size up in these though).
  • I love Anine Bing although I usually can’t afford her, but I can  when she has an up to 70% off sale…..sort of.  The Charlie boot I want is on sale (but I still can’t afford them). A really awesome classic, yet modern trench, solid black hi tops, or a fuzzy black sweater with a sexy open back.
  • Anthropologie has up to 20% off no code on sweaters and shirts (price reflected at check out). The Hygge cardigan is beautiful, and while I like the black and the grey (surprise, surprise) I really like it in gold. This one looks like a sweater my nana would have made which makes me happy.
  • At LOFT you can get and extra $25 off of dresses, skirts, and cardigans. Like this closet staple cardigan, a knee-length sweater skirt, or a fall dress (I like both colours but am partial to the blue).
  • Are you still looking for holiday cards? Minted has 15% off with the code BEMERRY until November 21st. The have their #GIVEHOPE holiday card collection for UNICEF which are beautiful, vintage, traditional,  and even non photo cards.
  • And if you just feel like buying something for you not just for a gift, then ASOS has a pre Black Friday sale of up to 60% off. I found a good jean jacket that has that slightly oversized fit in a washed denim. A pretty lace blouse from their Plus Size collection which would be perfect for a holiday look. And two things that I wouldn’t mind adding to my collection would be some mom jeans, and a tiered skirt.
  • If you are partial to chic, classic pieces then Club Monaco has an additional 30% off sale. This hat would fit in my collection well, as well as a shirt that has a twist to the classic striped shirt.

(You can click on any of the above items and it will take you to wear it is sold)

I nearly cried yesterday because I had to take out my winter coat. I’m not ready for this :( I tried my damnedest to avoid going because I didn’t want to freeze my ass off but at dinner I realized that I did not have any spaghetti noodles on the shelf, so I had to walk down to the store. This also brought to my attention that Roo never gave me back one of my leather gloves when she used it to pull a prickly weed out of her flower pot this summer, and she can’t remember where she put it. While I have one pair of heavy duty warm mitts from Uggs (my friend gave them to me a couple of years ago because they were too small) I am more partial to leather gloves, and it looks like I am in the market for a new pair. I love winter accessories in general because when your whole outfit is covered by a bulky winter coat you need to have some of your personality show somewhere. I kind of want a flashy bright colour pair of leather gloves vs the standard black ones. I pulled a bunch of winter accessories above for you to have a scroll through.

Fall outfit header

SHOP THE POST

Did you see yesterday’s post with a few fall fashion ideas? The above header shows the outfits in mini form. You can see the pieces above or head over to the post to read more about it.

I have weirdly got into the habit of washing my hair in the sink and letting it air dry while I have breakfast, coffee, and putz around on the internet (otherwise known as waking myself up). Then I wrap it in a towel and shower normally minus hair wash. It speeds up the hair drying time which I hate doing, but I find it a weird habit that I started out of nowhere.

Tom’s birthday is sneaking up and I have no idea what to get him. What I did plan out was going to cost me $70 U.S. to ship here which is completely insane so I had to scrap that idea. I am open to suggestions ;)

I was hoping to have a quiet weekend but my to-do list keeps getting longer, so let’s start it off by some weekly reads and finds. There are a couple of good sales on now so scroll down below to check out my picks.

Have a great weekend!

Weekly Reads (and maybe videos):

Weekly Finds:

  • Do you like A Christmas Story? Neca  made figures of Ralphie and his father that should be out in retailers now. I love giving collectables like this as gifts (or keeping for myself) and these are awesome. The dad even comes with the leg lamp :)
  • There are a few sales this weekend but the most notable are Nordstrom’s Fall Sale (which is a biggie and goes through Nov 12th) and Banana Republic where you get 40% off with the code BRAMILY until Nov 6. I’m going to post some of my picks from each sale.

Camel coats, oversized sweater, leather leggings, Adidas, and Whole Foods

This grainy photo from last night was from when I made a late night dash to Whole Foods (see red circle) to pick up muffins. I am addicted, so if you get the chance to try the Sweet Potato and Marshmallow muffins from there do it. They are amazing.

Did you see the DIY that I posted yesterday? While the photography and layout isn’t great, the whole project wasn’t an epic fail which I call a win.

Ever since Roo saw this pin, she has wanted to replicate it at home. I found him online and I totally want to buy him to surprise them I just don’t know where the hell we’d put him. I don’t know if they would be 100% on board of getting rid of our regular tree in favour of this ;)

Weekly Reads (and maybe videos):

  • This library is officially on my bucket list. I can imagine sitting there for hours at a time. This is one reason that I don’t like living in such a new country. You miss out on wonderful things like this.
  • These Maps of Britain and Ireland’s ancient tribes, kingdoms and DNA are so interestingEver since I found out that I have such deep roots from the UK and it covers about 65% of my DNA I find I have serious interest in the area. I did before too but even more so now. It kind of makes me realize why I had such a draw here to begin with.
  • Did you know that The Smithsonian has a Tween Tribune (and a Smithsonian Junior, and Teen Tribune)? I didn’t either but now I have this site bookmarked for us to check out frequently.
  • I’m not going to lie. This Lasagna Roll looks so damn good. I may have to attempt to make it soon.
  • Here is a trip down memory lane. And also an annoying song to get stuck in to your head. Your welcome ;)

Weekly Finds:

  • Ugh why is J.Crew so expensive? I know they have sales constantly and people have told me never to pay full price there because they are constantly having sales. Anyway, I adore this coat. This is my favourite shade of green. This is for when you love striped shirts but you don’t want them all to look the same. Also, how did I not know that they have clothes for kids?
  • Lord + Taylor is having and extra 15% off with the code LTDAYS. Is it weird that I want a rain slicker? It comes in that green I like I would just worry that I would be too Christmasy with my red rainboots ;)
  • H&M is having up to 50% off select tops (sweaters and jackets are in the list too). I love this wrap cardigan (It comes in brown too), and camel coloured turtleneck sweater. This leopard coat is amazing….I know because I tried it on 3 days ago. And if you are going to any holiday christmas parties I have found the perfect Christmas sweater. I looks and feels like gold garland. It’s fab.
  • Ann Taylor is having 50% off wear now styles and and up to an extra 50% off sale. This skirt is super cute and a great deal. I can picture wearing it with a vintage band tee, and checkered blazer (I have a thing for mixed prints right now). These print pants are cute too (and would wear with the same as above and maybe my new loafers) and with an extra 50% the price is great.
  • Anthropologie is having an extra 40% off sale. This tunic is gorgeous. I’d either half tuck it or loosely tie it on the side. A galaxy print kimono, or a brocade floral belt are like a statement piece additions to an outfit.
  • Remember the episode of Friends where Rachel was buying stuff from Pottery Barn but had to lie because Phoebe hated Pottery Barn? She kept saying it was from Colonial times, or times of yore. It was hilarious. Anyway Pottery Barn is having up various deals in different departments with the percentages of ranging from 20% – 40%. I am a faux fur throw addict and they have a huge selection of them. I’m fairly certain this is for Halloween but I think I might need it just because.

Camel coat, cher t-shirt, distressed jeans, and Gucci Brixton dupe loafers

Camel Coat | Cher T-shirt | Distressed Jeans | Botkier Purse | Loafers |

So these are the Gucci Brixton loafer dupes that I bought above. I love them. They fit great and do not need to be broken in. I wore them straight out of the box (with a sockette on) and walked around for several hours doing errands and had zero issues. I thought for sure I would need a bandaid or two but they didn’t bother me at all. The leather is extremely soft which is probably why I had no issues, and they fit true to size. I have an average width (maybe slightly on the narrow side but I never get narrow width shoes), and I wear and 8 and ordered an 8 with a perfect fit.  I mentioned that I was having issues finding them in Canada and then I found them randomly on The Shopping Channel. Now with the easy pay, in three more equal payments they are fully mine ;)
