Today I went to the eye doctor for the first time since 2010 (only slight changes). I then went in search of some new frames but had to put it off because they had dilated my pupils and I couldn’t see how any looked on me. I now have a bunch of random selfies on my phone that I took of me wearing different frames for reference.

Roo had her first Dungeons & Dragons “club” today and when I went to pick her up at the library I saw them all running after a girl who was clutching a book like her life depended on it. On the way back home I asked her why they were chasing someone and she told me that they were told the first person that could find a particular book on “tea eggs” (or something like that) would get to level up and receive a bunch of gold. It was Lord of the Flies: Dungeons & Dragons edition ;)

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Early Access

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2018

I know I don’t usually do a mid day post but since the sale starts today and things tend to sell out quickly (although many restock) I got up early this morning and pulled some of my favourite pieces. Now today the sale begins for card holders. I am not a card holder therefore I can only browse. The cards have different levels, with each one leading to different bonuses. The level 4 card holder got access yesterday but you need to spend over $10,000 a year for that to be applicable which would never happen in a million years here. I don’t think I even spend $1000 on clothes a year for the entire family so I guess I’d be a level 1 ;) But that is neither here nor there because many people have a card and this allows them to start shopping today.

Nordstrom only opened here within the last year so I have only physically been in a store within the last 18 months. I actually really like shopping in department stores and I really like that they carry from brands that don’t have stores yet in Canada (like Madewell).

I only made it partly through the women’s selections and a small fraction in to the home but I figure this is a good start. There are so many great jackets and sweaters this year, and while I didn’t include anything from the kids department (I only quickly browsed through but they have some great winter coats) there are tons of clothes that are perfect for back to school.

The sale opens to the general public on the 20th and goes until my birthday on August 6th. I think I’ll go check it out in person when it opens to the non card holders and see if I can find some good deals because I hate having to pay shipping charges and duties if it can be avoided. I went last year when it was still Early Access and all the sale items were roped off so you couldn’t look at anything unless you were a card holder. It kind of sucked and was super annoying so if you don’t have a card stick to online because you will at least be able to see the items better. I hope they still have some Madewell jeans in stock by then though because I am dying to try some on. Here are some of my selections.

Have a good one guys. Continue Reading

Hallelujah the heat finally broke. The fact that we had a heat wave that intense at the very start of summer has me cringing at the thought of what late July and August is going to bring us. The girls and I were Googling what cities we want to move to that are much more temperate and rainy than here. We narrowed it down to Edinburgh because Roo claims that the old part of the city reminds her of Harry Potter. Apparently that is a selling feature ;) If only it were that easy to just pick up and move to another country (well, at least for us regular people).

My birthday is sneaking up quickly and I am still trying to figure out how I feel about being this close to 40. It feels like 20 was just yesterday. Is 40 the new 20?

If you follow any blogs at all you’ll see that many of them are starting to post about the upcoming Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It’s going to get obnoxious until it finishes on August 5th so consider yourself warned ;) They released a sneak peak catalogue of some of the things that will be included in the sale and I have seen a lot of people complaining that they didn’t like the picks this year. I’m not going to lie, I do like a lot of it. Many pieces are different from their normal cookie cutter styles they put out so it’s nice to see some colour, patterns, and bolder styles. I don’t have a Nordstrom card so I won’t be able to jump on the early access train on July 12th. I’ll have to wait until it opens to the general public on July 20th like 90% of the rest of you who are planning on making some purchases. It’s the perfect time to find some fall deals for yourself or do some of the kids back to school shopping to avoid the crowds later.

I ‘m watching Pride and Prejudice Zombies as I am writing this. I don’t know why I never watched it sooner because I like it! I sometimes get pissed when they remake a classic, so I tend to avoid them out of spite. I am rapidly running out of things to watch though, so I thought I would give it a shot.

The line-up at Zara today was an hour long wait for me to return the jacket and jeans that I bought from the sale. The jacket didn’t have a lining and I intended it for a fall jacket. You need a lining in your jacket here in the fall so it was just a waste of money. I ended up ordering this blazer instead for the same price. I have had this in my shopping basket for around 7 months, and when they further reduced it at the sale I grabbed it. I also exchanged the jeans for the same cut but in the lighter wash, I like the look better.

I read that thousands of people showed up at Stonehenge for the summer solstice yesterday. I am officially adding that to my bucket list. It seems to be growing way faster than it is getting crossed off, I hope I can change that this year.
