SHOP THE POST

First off this is not much of a “what I wore” since it was so intensely cold and I am sick. I stayed in pyjamas a lot this week avoiding the outdoors as much as possible. The days we did go out I was too busy trying to get everyone out the door to get any pictures. That’s life though. Secondly, I included my Instagram top 9 above which revealed two things:
1) I need to add more colour to my wardrobe.
2) We are probably not going to top that Halloween costume this year 😉

As New Years always brings out the resolutions that end up being broken I am focusing more on life changes. Something has to change here and it is a good time to start. Everyone in this house needs their eating habits changed. I am spending the next day or two compiling recipes and ideas so that I can go out and buy some healthier options for us. The problem is that we are in the bad habit of convenience foods and it is going to be a hard habit to break.

The next life changing is exercising regularly. Honestly, I fell off the wagon when I broke my toe……that was a long time ago. Since then it has been excuse after excuse to not start again. Even though we have a gym in the building, working out from home is preferred. I need to be able to get up before the girls and kick my ass in to working out first thing in the morning. My issue is that everyone has horrible sleeping schedules here. The kids need to get in to bed earlier, that is a must. When they drag it out, it causes everyone else schedules to be thrown off and it is just completely and utterly unproductive and ridiculous. I downloaded the Bodylab app and am trying to pick which free exercise program I want to start with (I have set it to begin on the 8th, so if you have done it and have any suggestions I am all ears). I need to get mentally and physically healthier so this is a priority. I would also like to take the kids down to the pool more often than we get to. This coincides with getting to bed earlier because by the time they get up and we get everything we need to get done the day seems to be almost over. Then it’s supper, showers/baths, night routine, plus any free time I can set aside for blogging which leads to late bedtimes again, and the cycle repeats.

I spend all day trying to give the girls and education and in the process I neglect my own. I used to pride myself on my brains and memory and feel that the kids have literally siphoned them from me to them during gestation :/ I want to up my French, maybe start another language, and add a free online course from Coursera or similar. I need to have something that is just for me. I also want to try to read a new book that is from a “Great Books” list monthly (or bi monthly) using something like this list for selections.

Lastly, I having been wanting to up my wardrobe game and maybe have a minor style overhaul. I have watched a lot of old movies lately and I would like to inject some style from the 30’s and 40’s. Just a bit, paired with pieces I wear regularly. Like using this photo for inspiration. So maybe this style of pants paired with a graphic tee. I don’t know. I just feel like I want to hone my thrift and vintage shopping game so I can have a perfect balance between old and new pieces. I am starting the year with a couple of new pieces like my faux fur coat, a bowie tee, and this tee I ordered because I think it is funny. I have also been on the hunt for some vintage 501’s but haven’t had any success. I saw these online and think that they might be an overall better fit to the vintage style because they are slightly larger in the waist and more fitted in the legs. I just need to find a pair in my size that is in stock (in Canada).

Do you have any life changes you are making for the New Year?

  1. 1. Hope you feel better 2. The faux fur is divine 3. I bet even your pj game puts mine to shame 😀

    • Thank you! And my pj’s are awful. Old leggings, t-shirts so decrepit they are almost disintegrating, and socks pulled over the top of the leggings to round out the look. It’s not very cute 😉

  2. Your blog is wonderful! I am a single, working mother of a now grown son. The days are long but the years are short. Be gentle with yourself – you’re doing a great job with it all. I love your unique, kind spirit and creativity – which you also foster in your children. Bonne Année!

    • This is probably one of the nicest things anyone has said to me. Thank you and Happy New Year!

  3. Hi Sara, I too hope you feel much better soon. You manage to rock sick style in the meantime, and your plans for the year sound perfect. Cheers, Ardith

    • I’m feeling better! Still coughing but that’s how I roll 😉 I’m glad it was a relatively quick one.
