I was asked a question regarding my What to Pack for the UK in Summer list that I posted in April. They wanted to know if I could change and adapt the list to their needs. They are going to the UK at the end of June to study for 3 weeks, and it will be mostly casual with an occasional dressy outing. The two points that I had to take in to consideration were that they are 50+ and plus size. She wanted to know if I could do another list (like the original) but in Plus Size and focus more on blue, green, and maybe some red and/or patterns. I said I would be willing to give it a shot and this is the result.

Since the request is for early summer I included pieces in cottons, linen, and loose, flowy fabrics that will work well with heat. But in the flip side I included denim, a couple of sweaters, and a trench that will be easy to slip on in the air conditioning or cooler evenings, and damp rain.

I picked the yellow dress mostly because I love a good wrap dress but I also adore the colour. It seems like a perfect summer dress to add a nice splash of colour to a relatively neutral wardrobe. It was mentioned that because of her colouring she tends to avoid tan, sand, and beiges so instead of those neutrals I opted for grey and black. In order to have some sort of cohesiveness neutrals are important to build your wardrobe on.

As for footwear once again I was flummoxed. I always think that a walking shoe or sneaker is necessary, but because it will be technically summer I wondered if a sandal was a good choice. I decided that I would personally bring a slide, a sneaker, and some other kind of flat if it was me. Three choices that will easily go with whatever you are wearing any day of the trip. For some people the red striped Tom’s shoe might be a bold choice but I think that if you are wearing mostly neutrals it is nice to add a “fun” colour or print shoe to the mix. It livens things up and can make a statement.

I put together 24 outfit options for these pieces are in this post.

I hope this gives you some inspiration 🙂
