SHOP THE POST

After I posted the packing list last week for What to Pack for Sweden I got a comment asking if I could put together some kids lists for this same trip as well. One for a younger girl age 6ish and another for a 9-year-old boy. I said sure and this post is for what to pack for a younger girl.

I have a 6-year-old girl as many of you already know and she is a dirt magnet. She could stand in a room in one spot, not moving all day long and by bedtime she would be covered in dirt. It’s so bad that when we eat (at home obviously) she eats in her underwear and an old t-shirt because she uses herself as a human serviette regardless how many I place near her for her to use. So needless to say I launder her clothes a lot and packing light for her would mean having clothes that lean towards darker colours and/or can easily be washed or spot cleaned.

Since she is my second child I know that most children that age are dirt magnets, just some to a lesser degree (my oldest wasn’t even 1/10 as bad).  My choices for this list are pieces that will work for temperatures that average around 20°C with options for hotter and cooler days in there as well. I included 24 outfit options at the bottom of this post for reference to how many different ideas you can get from these pieces. I was kind of torn for footwear. My daughter wears her converse all the time, but she is also partial to her rain boots. It was a toss-up to include sandals or rain boots since kids are attracted to any puddle within a 100 mile radius. I would check the weather religiously up until the day you leave and decide whether there was enough precipitation to call for bringing rain boots or not (for my daughter I would probably include them just because of how often she wears them through the year). I also suggest several pairs of leggings since they easily layer under dresses too. Some shirts of varying sleeve lengths in looser/airy fabrics and some cozy sweaters/sweatshirts that can easily be tied round the waist round it out.

Tomorrow I will post the boys list and then on Friday I put together some collages that can give you some ideas of what to pack in their personal bag (backpacks are good) for on the plane entertainment.

I also suggest bring a tide pen (or two) if your child is anything like mine 😉

  1. Yeah, this is great, Sara! Thanx a lot! My kids are dirt magnets as well, with my 9year old boy being covered in the food he ate all day long and lots of soil and other outside garden type of dirt and my 6 year old daughter coloring not only her color books but her jeans as well… She typically has streaks of chalk on her face, crayon on her pants and some water color on her shirt. And maybe just a hint of blueberry in the corner of her mouth. So I definitely get what you mean. 🙂
Thank you for the terrific capsules! They will be so helpful for our trip!
