This list is part two to Wednesday’s Packing light list featuring what to bring for younger kids. In this one I am featuring older child packing ideas. I have based my selections on pieces that my almost 12-year-old gravitates towards. Her choices are often gender neutral so some of these ideas would work well for boys as well.
She generally sticks to darker colours, band/graphic t-shirts (especially if it is Harry Potter), sweaters, jeans, and plaids. Her style is what I call 2016 grunge. For footwear I included two pairs of sneakers (she lives in sneakers) a black pair, and red converse (because the 10th doctor is her favourite), and a pair of cherry Doc Marten’s.
To wrap it all up I included a jacket, knit hat, scarf and messenger bag. She never leaves the house without a bag or back pack so this is a must. I put together 10 outfit options that you can see at the bottom of the post and there is room to make many more.
To keep room in your suitcase so that you have places to put your souvenirs I suggest that you pack your clothes normally when going to your destination, then roll them on the way home. Rolling them allows you to fit more in but you want to fit more on the way home vs on the way there because chances are you will be returning home with more than you arrived with.
It also makes sense to combine any dirty laundry in one suitcase, then combine the clean together in the remaining suitcases. For my girls I would use one of their suitcases for dirty laundry on the way home and the other to keep their remaining clean clothes and souvenirs.
For what to pack on the plane for entertainment for older kids I have compiled some ideas in this post.

Love it all. I wonder where your daughter gets her sense of style. Hmmm.
