I have received several requests for a work capsule wardrobe over the last few months. Since my own personal wardrobe is quite casual it isn’t very inspirational if you have a job that requires a level of professional dress on a day-to-day basis. While I can put together more professional outfits from my pieces I would not have enough variety if I had to work a job that involved me getting dressed up 5 days a week. I decided I would put together a basic work capsule that includes many pieces that most people already have in their wardrobes, so the amount of pieces you would need to add is minimal. The basics I have listed here combined with what you already own should give you enough outfit options to have a very large and complete work capsule. I chose to stick with a lot of neutrals once again, because it is a lot easier to combine pieces for variety if everything you have can go together. If bright colours are an integral part of life for you than you can easily add a coloured cardigan, shoes, scarves, handbags, and/or jewellery to get enough colour variation for your tastes. I have a yellow necklace that I love and it stands out when I wear head to toe neutral bringing a little variety and something extra to the outfit.
Obviously some work wardrobes are quite extensive and expensive, but I wanted to post one that can give you unlimited outfit options without breaking the bank. It’s hard to buy work clothes, especially when you are just starting out and don’t have any extra money, which is why I chose a lot of pieces that many people already have in their wardrobes. I have 15 items in my closet that could easily work as pieces from this list and several more that would work as a substitute in a pinch. Basics are the building blocks for a versatile wardrobe. I am going to put together as many outfit options as I can in the next post so you can see how many different looks you can get from this.
Edit: I made 40 outfit options from this list and they can be found in this post.
