This packing list comes via request. What to pack for Vienna, Austria for the month of April, when the weather is totally unpredictable. This list is designed for a 46-year-old woman who is travelling abroad with her boyfriend. She completely does not look 46, (very youthful) and prefers a classic, stylish wardrobe.

She told me what colour ideas she was considering and what items she thought that she may include. I expanded that with some basics, with the key items that will allow her to get as many outfit options as possible for this trip. It needs enough versatility that it can accommodate dinners, and dressier occasions since she is uncertain of everything they will be doing when they are there.

Some key items are dark denim, black pants, a wrap dress, black dress (for evenings or layered for day), leggings for warmth under dresses (or under the tunic for a casual airport look) and a coloured cardigan. These pieces can easily be paired and layered with a few basics like a t-shirt, striped long sleeve, button down, and a pullover.

The blazer will work as a light jacket that will work over every piece. Colourful accessories are easily added for some accent colour, and I picked this hat because it is called the Vienna hat so it seemed appropriate 😉

Combining these pieces will give you 20+ outfit combinations varying from day wear to night wear. As always you wear the heavier/bulkiest of these pieces for travel in order to lighten your suitcase and make packing easier. Outfit options will be in the next post.

What is your maximum number of clothing items you try to bring when packing light?
