I mentioned in my last post that we had looked at and were discussing taking a cruise at some point in the near future. While I am more of a cooler weather person my husband would pick tropical weather and destinations any day. There are a lot of cruise options that appeal to a variety of tastes but no one will argue that the Caribbean is one of the most popular cruise destinations. People are always looking for an escape from the cold and what better way than to say Sayonara to winter for a bit while you take a boat and travel from island to island in the Caribbean. That is the focus of this packing list.

In this list I picked more dresses than I usually do because they are cool and comfortable to wear when it is hot, and easy to dress up and down, and pack well. For tops I chose light and airy material like a linen tank top, cotton peasant shirt in white, an off the shoulder top, and a casual striped loose-fitting tee.

The sweater can be worn as a light coat if necessary or switched out for a jean jacket or other light styles. I include a Cuyana Cape a lot in my lists for its versatility, it’s packing ease, and it always looks chic regardless of what you are wearing. A hat and sunglasses are always a good idea when you are down around the equator because the sun is really strong and affects you quicker.

The scarf I included would make a good swimsuit cover, drape it over your shoulders as a shawl, or even use it as a blanket in the sand. Multi purpose items save a ton of room when packing light. For shoes I included a pair of sneakers for walking, sandals, and espadrilles for some casual dressiness. Two purses are what I usually show, your regular every day purse and a clutch or small cross body is a good choice (cross body’s are good for preventing theft).

When travelling to a warm destination it is always wise to  include some items for cooler weather for several reasons. First, you may have a stopover in a cooler destination, second you want the clothes you wear home to be warm if it is colder there because it will feel even colder when you return from a tropical destination, and third, always pack for the unexpected because you never know how the weather will turn out.

If you wear your heaviest/bulkiest pieces to travel then the rest of these items should easily fit into a carry-on. The outfit options for this post can be found in What to Wear on a Caribbean Cruise.
