In my last post I put together a packing list for a reader who is taking a trip to San Francisco/San Diego over Christmas. I truly hope that you find it useful for your upcoming vacation.  In this post I am going to give a breakdown of 20 outfit option ideas (10 at the top and 10 at the bottom of page) that are built with these pieces, with room to make more with a little creativity.

The  trip is mostly a casual family vacation with a couple of nights out with her spouse.  Any of these outfit combinations are made casual just by switching shoes and accessories and then taken quickly to night-time looks by changing them again. If your coat won’t work in a more formal situation than your other option is to use the kimono jacket (or a blazer) for a suitable formal covering if the weather is cooler.

I like to make the most out of my closet so I tend to include items that do double or triple purpose in my packing lists, like a dress becoming a skirt when something is worn over, leggings being both night/lounge wear and to wear under a tunic, a kimono style jacket is used as a top over jeans, a light jacket over your shirt/sweater, or left open like a blazer over a blouse.

To get the most out of a travel wardrobe I try to include at least one item that is convertible that you can wear many ways to stretch your outfit options. I am contemplating buying a Chrysalis Cardi by Encircled for this very reason. So many looks are achieved with this one item that you could get a weeks worth of outfit from this one piece. Imagine the space you would save. Wear it as a scarf on the plane and you would barely have to pack a thing. Amazing. They also have many other convertible pieces like the Adiona Maxi Dress that I am also in love with. Now that is a smart concept.

Do you have a convertible piece in your wardrobe?

    • I didn’t 😞 my husband was supposed to get it for Christmas. I left enough hints via text messages and leaving it open on his laptop but we all know how well men listen. He bought me a coffee maker instead 😂
